pickup/guitar matching... MM, PK, RY, C-Pig
« on: April 16, 2009, 07:39:57 PM »
i messed things up.

at the moment i've got the following homeless pickups:
1) a Rebel Yell set
2) a Miracle Man set
3) a C-Pig bridge plus Painkiller neck

the guitars involved are:
1) my Nailbomb loaded Ibanez S320 (i have another nailbomb set and i prefer the other guitar)
2) an Ibanez RGA121 (that's more or less a fixed bridge S with sharper wingtips, in RG fashion)
3) a wengee neckthrough custom (with ash wings)

maybe in the future i'll buy another similar custom with maple neck and mahogany wings. it's not any priority but i know i won't resist too long...

my ideal couplings should have been these:
1) RY in the RGA
2) C-Pig + PK in the S
3) MM in the custom

but i fear that MMs won't be enough versatile and i'll begin using the custom less when the honweymoon period is over... so what if i put in it a set of PKs (that at the moment are perhaps my favourite pickups) to emphasize wengee's midrange and not fight it with MMs?
or the mixed Cpig/PK set?

and, to complicate things further, if i'll ever buy the maple neckthrough could my Holy Divers satisfy me more than in my Hornet? (that in this case would be equipped with the Rebel Yells...)

i don't know if anyone could read this post in its entirety (without manifesting psycotic symptoms)... if so what do you think?
not about me, i prefer not to know...

too many? ;)

Why dont you just swap them round?

You could have probably done one of them in the time it took to type that, and all of them 10 times over in the time you'd probably spend involved in this thread.

FWIW I'd put the pig and painkillers in the wenge. For a powerfull set its pretty versatile, and the wenge is pretty bright, so I'd go for low-endy pickups, which they both are.

I think you have too many guitars and too many great pickups and are spoilt for choice. :)

I agree, this is the only way to find out for sure.

you're both right, i think it's time to slow down and go back to actual playing... lately i'm becoming more a guitar collector rather than a guitar player...  :(

and i agree with you on both points...
i was thinking about C-pig too.
