Tighest closest BKP alinco pup to a ceramic BKP
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:53:45 AM »
So basically i want the attack, tightness and low mids of a ceramic in a alinco package i have clod sweats and i love them but want something similar but with the alinco warmess, Same clarity and attack (Maybe a little darker)
Thinking a nailbomb would do the job what do you guys think?
I know i could just get a ceramic pickup but i want different types of p-up's for different guitars.

Guitar will be a custom shop warmoth super-strat.
Body : Mahogany, redwood top
Neck: Rosewood, ebony fret board

Have you considered going down in output? The VHII, Mule, Riff Raff pickups are generally considered to be clearer sounding than the high output alnico models because they retain more treble, but without the compression of a ceramic pickup. If low output is not your thing, Nailbomb should do you good.

I would say Rebel Yell bridge.

I don't find BDs very tight, at least in my Epi they're more "warm" than tight.

Hmm rebel yell's could work to
Intreasting the lower output pickups i have played had been muddy
VHII'S would work but to me they sounded a little to bright that could also be because ive mostly heard them in maple neck strats.
I like compression but i dont need it to feel like a C-PIG for example even the CS is pushing it for me but i love it!
So if that helps compression a little less than the cs

Well, the tightest of the 3 high output bks is the warpig.

Dunno if thats overkill for you, but its tight.

I dont really know the lower powered ones well (most of them at all), so shant comment. (save to say that a crawlers pretty tight as well! Tighter than a nailbomb at any rate)

Hmm now i guess to add which would be clearer of the two? Crawler nailbomb rebel yell?
On jazz chords with a decent amount of gain.

That's going to be a dark sounding guitar. Maybe Cold Sweat indeed would be the best? I found the CS to be very bright in swamp ash/maple neck. Rosewood/mahogany.... the redwood top will not effect much, but the ebony board should give you a little on the bright side to balance the package. I still think it will need a bright pickup though.

Hmm true so maybe VHII's would be a good choice?
I love ceramics but i think that guitar would be a good choice for an alinco
Cold sweats are very bright indeed but they have amazing clarity!

Nice well to those of you have listen to dhiem's comparison videos i love the sound of nailbombs for lead but for rythm i really like the painkiller...

EDIT: I just listened to the lead one and liked the PK lead to not as much as the NB but definately something i like, I think the PK would be a good choice for a super strat with those woods MDV has won once again...
I guess im biting the bullet and getting another ceramic.
