Grover tuners

I am sure MDV will reply at some point :) but thought I'd post anyway. Just purchased his Dean ZX and noticed the grover tuners. I am so use to winding strings around pegs but on these it appears as if string was cut to length beforehand and the tuner locks it into place. Anyway just wondered best methods for grover tuners. Restringing. Obviously newbie when it comes to basic maintenance of guitar.

Look how the strings are on it now!!

Theres a screw (the head of which is the top of the peg) that goes though a ring. You pull the string between the ring and the screw and lock the screw down, then tune up.

They're held to length by locking the screw down on the strings when being held, by hand, at tension. Then the rest is cut off.

Thus taking all that irksome winding out of it.

Yeah just looked properly. It will all become crystal clear on next string change but seen as how these are fairly new not for a little while. One other dumb arsed question so as a rule of thumb how much slack do you need to leave. Someone on a locking tuner pulled his all the way through first but obviously these are different. But yeah back to sweeping no point bothering about it now :)

It sounds pretty awesome by the way.

I pull them through pretty hard, and lock them down under some tension. They still come out slack and you have to tune up, but thats the easiest way.

Oh it does sound good, doesnt it? 10-52s in E on 24.75 = nice tension for metal rhythm. The X-Bucker, being very bassy and very tight, matches the guitars brighty attack really well too.

With the locking Grovers that i've got, I find that you can just put the string through the post, and then tighten... as the main part of the post rotates, it locks the string in place, and then starts to tighten the string. I've had no tuning problems at all with this, although it's not got a trem on it, so your mileage may vary.
