eBid
« on: April 22, 2009, 12:37:39 PM »
Does anyone here use eBid? Any opinions would be helpful.

Asking because we are aiming to start selling online and have just done some back-of-an-envelope calculations of ebay charges for business users.

There is a 9.9% final value fee (although we might qualify for a 5.75% fee as many of the items we sell will be deemed consumer electronic), + listing fees + possibly 3.5% Paypal fees; and you HAVE to give the option of Paypal payment, and NOT encourage any other method of payment. Paypal and ebay are of course owned by the same company.......

I worked out that on an item retailing at £5.64 with standard retail mark up ebay would be getting 75% of the profit assuming payment via Paypal!

i'm afraid i don't know anything about ebid, just wanted to agree with you that the seller's costs on ebay now are scandalous!  it's really not worth your while to sell on it anymore, how anyone makes money i don't know.  they've basically jacked the fees way up to make huge profits instead of the very good profits they were already making.  perhaps this is the shareholders' fault?  "we want a bigger dividend!"  that has been the undoing of many a company.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

I very very VERY rarely use ebay. I detest the fact that paypal seem to think it's okay to charge such extortionate fees for using their service.

Well Paypal are no worse than most CC providers. What is bad is that sellers HAVE to offer Paypal as a method of payment, when there are plenty of alternatives. Like cash!

What I find interesting is that when we deal with other businesses we will get a trade discount; equally we do jobs for other businesses at a trade discount too.

However, if I'm dealing with a financial service provider they up charge services to small businesses!

I think you're a bit behind the times Roo.  Ebay fees are now WAAAAY higher than PP fees.  Paypal almost seems reasonable in comparison !
