I know the shop implied that it was only a year or so old, but I'm asking why its a problem that it's older.  Guitars tend to settle down and get better with age anyway, so I can't see any negative aspect here.

isn't the point that they sold it based on the retail price from a year ago, when they had actually paid the wholesale price from seven years ago?  i don't think he minds that the guitar is older, it's the misrepresentation as regards the price.  the "discount deal" he got may have been what the standard price would have been anyway when it was new, which would actually be very dishonest!

precisely. :) they lied (whether intentionally or not), and that lie allowed them to get a bigger price from shobet. Which they should make right (and which, to their credit, appear to be doing). :)

Well, is it rude to ask what the deal is they offered?

They offered me a £100 credit note on top of the deal, my money back, or a swap for something of equal value.

So I'm now the owner of a Gibson LP Traditional, which what I went it to buy in the first place! I should trust my instincts. It's probably a worse deal but I'm happier so...

I must say that Colin and all the staff at PMT in Manchester have impressed the $%&# out of me since I made them aware of the problem. They've been professional, courteous and couldn't do enough to help come to a solution to my problem.

And what's it like? Those new traditionals are supposed to be quite good guitars I heard? What's the top like? Would love to see it.

Pics to come later, I've not really had time to play it properly yet as it's been 'one of those days' at work. Even though work is at home and I'm surrounded with my gear, I best do what I'm paid for! ;)

ah, that sounds good, at least they tried to make it right. Good for them. Glad to hear you got a good guitar out of it. :)

Oooh I likes, I likes a lot.

I made an ikkle wet patch in my pants. From what I've played of it so far it's a very nice guitar. I went through all the Traditionals they had in stock and this is the one that spoke to me. It was a close call between this and a more traditional sunburst, but this one sounded better to my ears.

I'll get around to writing more when I can stop playing it, which could very well be next month! ;)

Now that is a very nice les paul. I love the more subtle finishes, shame my lp is a disgusting cherry sunburst.
