Sorry if this has already been discussed but I could not find any threads...

I will be working in Paris 3 days a week for the next 3 months - I want to take a guitar with me to give me something to do in the evenings and I am thinking about a 'travel amp' that I could use with headphones- seen the Vox Headphone amps, Marshall micro-stack and Line 6 Pocket POD. Any thoughts on these or any other suggestions? Basically I need something that is very small, runs from batteries and takes headphones. Soundwise I don't need much - it is just to practice without annoying the folks in the next hotel room!

Tending to the POD at present but I am sure that the forum will give me plenty more to think about!

Pods are great, not just for travel, but for anything. The vox headphone amps are meant to be good too, but I haven't used them, and I don't see the point in having them for anything other than travel!

I ordered a Vox amPlug AC30 yesterday, I'll let you know what I think :)

I suppose a Pocket Pod would give more tones, if you want that go for the Pod.

tried one of those vox headphone amp things, quite liked it. they certainly are keenly priced too.

got one of these as a present and they're surprisingly good:



Built-in tuner, 9V battery/12v plug power, strap buttons and straight-out Orange tone... how can you go wrong :)

I have a Korg Pandora and can vouch for them being pretty tasty. Pretty good sounds and backing tracks etc.

This isn't an amp, it's a guitar ....

I also spend a lot of time travelling.  So last week, I bought one of these:



For £109, it's pretty damn good.  It needed a little set-up attention, and you'll never get away from the fact that it's £100-worth of made-in-China, but if you need to carry something small & light and not-too-valuable, I don't think there's anything better.  It's remarkably comfortable to play, and the sounds aren't as bad as you might think.  They also do a 2HB and a 3SC config.

The shop was really helpful too.

Excellent thing !

As for me I use a Pocket Pod for some travels. The sounds are good enough (any kind of sound available) and you can also plug it in your amp at home for some additional tones...
