The price thing is a funny one........£90 gets you a completely handmade pickup, higher spec materials than any production pickup in the world, with a lifetime warranty............expensive,I don't think so.
The huge volume of US orders coming through now is testament to that-with the $ being so weak to the £, they're really getting hit hard but tone is the first priority to alot of folk.

I don't get it. I've seen players who are willing to spend thousands on guitars, amps and FX, but seem unwilling to invest in a good set of pickups.

Maybe it's a status thing?

I guess a lot of players dont understand that the pickup is the voice of the guitar and that they think by changing their amps/pedals and guitars they will eventually stumble across the sound they where looking for. I know cause i was one a year ago. I have been educated, and pickups are much more inexpensive than valve heads.

A matched pair of Gibson anything is £210+, the new'calibrated'SDs are £205(wonder where that idea came from!!), a pair of Lollar humbuckers are £240,Fralins come in at £220+,import a set of WCRs and they'll be £200+...............a calibrated covered set of BKPs are £190..............who's expensive especailly considering out of all the above we're the only one's to honestly handwind ours, don't charge extra for gold or 4 conductor, warranty for life and use far more expensive bespoke materials.
I rest my case. PDT_045

I've got calibrated Nailbombs in a battered old Vee & a Mule in an older Ibanez RS1010SL.  Both PUPs excellent & superb customer service - e-mail advice from Tim, ordered at PJs, Portsmouth, that day, wound that evening, delivered next day. Can't beat that. MMs in a Les Paul next, after hearing the sound clip! Awesome stuff - when do Ozzmosis next play the Wedge (must see the MMs in action!).  :band5:

I'd chip in on the value for money thing. I am still absolutely delighted with my Apaches- they just get better  as far as I am concerned. I have been messing around with amp settings like never before. Not because I can't get happy-quite the opposite in fact because of the responsiveness -it is more rewarding than ever before just messing around. To me, BKPs are worth every penny as we have all found out.I agree that pups are the main voice of the guitar- get that right and everthing else follows. I have found also that I have reduced f/x settings-I don't think I have seen any mention of this and it'd be interesting to see what the rest of  you think

just wondering how it was actually recorded...

mics into ??? into ??? then onto a PC?

Getting confused about recording stuff at mo, want to sort some cheap gear which will let me just mic my amp, then record onto something, then transfer that onto my pc...

dont want to be bothered with onboard amp models + effects, just my tone, captured onto my pc :)

I take a direct out of my Koch Loadbox and run it in to my soundcard. I think those Hotplates that are causing so much GAS can do that too. I can mike my amp too but you have to crank the $%&#er up and it's not always possible!

SM57in the middle of the speaker - Neve preamp - M-Audio Delta interface - Apple G4 powermac running Logic Pro7

You could try a portable Minidisc recorder, the little Sony ECM stereo mic's OK. If you're getting Buzz, switch the monitor off whe you record - that's where most oif the buzz comes from (assuming you have a CRT not and LCD monitor!)
