So as i'm an apprentice guitar tech, i'm on the road to tackling the hard task of refrets. i've got a test guitar to spare that i can pretty much do whatever i want with. (china made peavey that's been fubared many times)
i know there are some skilled guys out here. my goal is to defret, refret, dress, defret refret, dress, on that neck, till i'm comfortable enough to tackle that task on a real dying guitar of mine that already got a dress but that really needs a refret.
the current neck i'll work with has no binding. with some work do you think it's possible to add binding to this neck eventually so i can practice getting frets off on a bound neck? my dying guitar has a bound set neck so it's what i need to work my way towards before even starting any work on a customer's guitar.
what tips do you have? what tools should i look for? the one who taught me knows much about woodworking and stuff, but for refrets, he's never done any. though i'm sure he could probably give me a hand on the first one and i'd go from there.
i've checked the frets.com website, not thoroughly yet, but i'm working my way through most of the articles. any other sources?
