Cold Sweat - Clarity and definition under gain (Blackmachine/Axe-FX content)

Hi guys,

I'm recording a friend's band (mostly commercial American rock in a similar vein to Alter Bridge) over the next few weeks, so I've done a few preliminary mixtests. I thought I'd share this one since it shows off how clear the Cold Sweats are under loads of gain.
I recorded this with my Blackmachine B6, with its pair of Cold Sweats, though only the bridge pickup is used here. I ran it through my Fractal Audio Axe-FX Ultra, using the Mesa/Boogie Mark IV and Diezel VH4 patches through the 4x12 German and V30 cabs. Excuse the naff sounding "bass", it's actually my guitar pitchshifted down an octave. The real recordings will have real bass on them. The guitars are quad-tracked.

sounding nice - not quite as chunky as I remember them sounding in my Les Paul though.

think I may change over to Cold Sweats again - they're just LOTS of fun to play.

i expected this to be a bit more high-heavy (your B6 looks like a bright guitar and cold sweat, well, we know them!), so this sludgy tone really surprised me...
anyway your clips (and hunter's) already made me decide to but the axe-fx, so i need no confirmation... just more money!  :)

Cheers guys, the aim is really to get a big wall of sound over everything else, I'm just really satisfied with how clear the guitars are despite their darkness.
The B6 isn't actually very bright, its just super mid-heavy, which is probably why it records so well. The amp models were actually really scooped on the Axe-FX.

Im using sonar 7 getting pretty good results with that sounds much better than pro-tools IMO.

You're right about the clarity there - I'm liking that sound, and how it sits nicely and cuts through. Good luck with the real recordings :D

It's suprising how mid heavy a maple neck/rosewood board/swamp ash body can be huh!
I figured my rga b6 copy would be rather mid-scooped/neutral, but not so (the nailbombs don't hurt that though  :D)

To my ears and experience with swamp ash, much of that great 'ring/clarity' especially with full chords is definately due to the swamp ash/bareknuckle combo, the string separation is insane even on my guitar!!
