He's not bad is he? I saw him a fair few years ago when he toured with Juan Martin, Martin Carthy and Martin Taylor - now that gig was awesome!

daft question: with a slide, do you fret with it or "float" it against the string?

You 'float' it above the fret wire rather than between the fret wire.

I hate that sort of playing - I'm not a great fan of Martin Simpson having seen him a few times but i'd prefer to pay to see him to the Kaki King/Michael Hedges meets Flamenco meets Jazz of Antonio Forcione any day.  I accept he's technically skilled but like the shred generation it just goes no where for me.
