Pickups for Edwards Les Paul
« on: May 03, 2009, 12:03:59 PM »
Hi guys.

I'm trying to find some decent pickup combination for my Edwards E-98-LTC Les Paul. It has some Duncans (JB & '59) now but these are a little "boomy" because I tune down to B. I have had EMG's with my previous Les Paul and I liked it a lot. But BKP's instead? Hmm. I have thought about Painkiller to the bridge and Cold Sweat to the neck. That should sound bright enough for low tuning and keep the balance, right?

I have Nailbombs (with ceramic bridge) in my Warmoth Soloist (which I like a lot) and I think these 'bombs are a bit too low sounding for a LP. So, recommend me a better setup if you have any ideas. Thanks! :)

I LOVE the Riff Raff on my Edwards LPC. It's not boomy but nicely balanced. I kept the 59n in the neck but that one is quite bassy indeed, and that's in standard tuning. I'd replace it with something a bit more modern and tight sounding on the bass, though it's in the nature of the LP neck position to sound overly big at times I feel.

Those woods yes. Music style is metal. Fast riffs, a little djent etc.

Riff Raff has too low output for me. And you are using standard tuning so..

I was gonna say painkiller, but the edwards LP I played was already way too middy
and too bassy too (so I won't recommend the miracle man or pig)
so... cold sweat
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

If you guitar is too boomy and you want detuned metal, then there are only two choices: Painkiller and Cold Sweat.

If you're guitar is already middy and/or you don't like too many mids then Cold Sweat for sure

So the recommendations are the same I already thought. Gotta do some thinking and decide. Thanks!
