He remains an authentic and passionate bluesman however, especially when he straps on a Gibson.  Check this out:

Some interesting stuff in this thread.

I'm not a big Clapton fan, but I am influenced by him, probably the Cream era stuff most, more than I want to admit or realise.

I do like the Beano album a lot - but I'm not terribly fond of John Mayall hisself, so I don't listen to it that often.

Interesting what Philly says though - Just One Night is my favourite EC album, I've owned it in several formats since it came out, and the first time I saw him was with that band (albeit with a slightly different rhythm section - Duck Dunn was on bass, which was almost as exciting as seeing EC himself!)

What I love about the album is that, for me, he did get emotion/passion out of a guitar sound that is extremely "un-aggressive" compared to everything else I was listening to (and playing myself) at the time

I'll defer to you since you've heard it many more times than I have!  If I remember right, Tommy Vance (TV on the Radio) played the entire album on the Friday Rock Show just before it was released... and I haven't heard it from that day to this, so that's twice in 30 years!

When I was a third year at Uni, er, '83 I think, we didn't actually do any work. We'd just go round each others rooms, drink tea, smoke Marlboroughs, (or roll-ups depending on finances), and you'd say "put the Eric on then..." as you arrived (which meant Just One Night, nothing else...)

I did convert to Rothmans for a bit after we went to see him live...

Is that what EC used to smoke then?  I think he's packed it in now (in fitting with his Mr Sensible image I referred to before!  )

Yeah, we Marlborough (Motorhead) smokers were down the front, looking up his nostrils, gazing at Blackie, etc.

He had a little table near him with his drink and a packet of Rothmans (v rock and roll ). There was a cigarette jammed into the "cigarette holder" on his strat most of the gig.

I switched to Rothmans after that - classy looking packet, and it made me different from my little band of heavy rockers and hairy hippies

Just watched the sessions for Robert J DVD again. Although he has gone boring it really is a very good watch if you like that sort of stuff. Doyle Bramhall is very good indeed - he also uses a trussart telecaster. Very nice indeed!

I watched the gig Clapton and Winwood recorded in NYC last year on the Blues Brittania series they had on BBC4 last night and I have to say that's the best I've heard out of him in a long while.

I believe they are doing a tour but the $%&#ers are only touring the US. Thanks for that you bellends.

The older Clapton gets, the more he looks like Ronnie Corbett
ROFL never noticed before, but in that picture I see where you're coming from!

TBH I'd rather listen to Ronnie Corbett any day of the week...

That's a quality bit of photoshopping!  I was fooled for a minute, until I realised an Explorer would be almost as big as Ronnie himself.

Ha ...True! ...also you can see I couldn't be arsed to select the tuners..

It's my son Adam's Epi Korina Explorer with a Miracle Man bridge pickup. Although I haven't tried many Epiphones I am really impressed with this one.
