Yeah it is clearly fake. In real life Ronnie could recline in a sultry and sexy way along the top of the body. I wasn't fooled for a minute.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but if you have Sky TV they are showing the John Mayall with Eric Clapton concert recorded on Mayall's 70th birthday from this weekend on Sky Art (recorded in 2003 ?).  I have already watched it and to me it confirms all the points I have made about Clapton.  I thought his tone was at best "uninteresting" especially when compared to Mayall's guitarist Buddy Whittington (also using a Strat through a Dr.Z) whose playing I thought was excellent (a much better Strat sound than Eric's). They played "All your love" and "Hideaway" from the Beano album - oh dear ..... had to play the originals to remind myself why I used to like them.

Also, as to be expected, John Mayall's voice does n't sound the same at 70 as it did on the Beano album.
