Basically it lets you turn the master volume of your amp to maximum but control the overall volume with the Hotplate. So you can get that power amp break up at lower volumes.

but only on valve amps, do NOT try one on a solid state amp as you will kill both amp and hot-plate!  ( don't ask me how, but the warning i got was even more vigorous than that one)

it wouldn't make all that difference even if it did work......

but if you have a SS, then you don't have to fish out the cash for a hotplate

So, if I have a pair of 16 Ohm cabs GS412IA and GS412IS, do I get an 8 Ohm or a 16 Ohm?
Actually I've only got one at the moment - I'll be getting the bottom one in a little while...

Match up the rating on the back of the amp

If I get my job at Co-Op or Halfords I'm buying one after the first payday

I thought you already had one that you used with your Fender Tom?  :?

So, since I plug into the 1x16 ohm socket at the moment I'd use a 16 Ohm hotplate. And when I get the other cab and plug it into the first cab, I'll plug the combination into the 1x8 ohm socket, I'd use an 8 ohm hotplate?

I've just read a bit on the THD site, and it looks like it's only possible to use on if you have a head and cab. Would i be able to use one with my combo? How easy wouldit be to set it up, for someone who's never looked in the back of an amp before?

i use it with my combo. just plug the amp into the hotplate, and the hotplate into the speakers. easy as that.

Ok, so i can use one, but how much quicker will the valves age from turning the volume from i think under 3 (my amp has no numbers) to full, or close to?
