I just got to use mine yesterday at band practice and damn, my sound kicks so much arse now it's unreal. If any one was considering getting one, do so you won't regret it.

I'll definitely second the motion. Mine was certainly worth the outlay.

If you have a valve amp, and if you value your home life (or even your tone life, ho ho) GET ONE!

Used to use one with my Carvin Legacy.....till I got hooked on the Vetta thing and sold it.
Have to say it did colour the sound slightly esp on the higest attenuation setting, but only a tiny bit & generally it gave pretty good results.

1000% better than the Marshall Powerbrake which I also tried which completely killed the tone of the amp!!

I've heard some really bad things about the Powerbrake, that it colours the sound and alot of the time it blows the transformer and completely ruins your set up. But it makes sense to just spend an extra £20/30 on the THD due to the bright and deep switch as well as the noise reduction feature

I'd just like to add, DONT go cheap and get a Weber MiniMass. I've decided I hate mine, it makes the sound all mushy   I'll save bday and xmas money for a hotplate though  :D

how much should i pay for an 8 ohm hot plate? i guess i'd probably go second hand because as long as it works i'm happy, and the 8 ohm ones seem to be the most common

Well you'd have to look at your amp to see what Ohm it is. The hotplate would have to match exactly or it won't work and could damage your amp.  I got mine from www.gak.co.uk for £230 that includes delivery. Every where else charges 250.
