This was recorded in a hurry this evening using a maple boarded Strat loaded with Apaches, mostly just to to test out a patch I'd made on my Pod XT.  I'm still not able to record my amps so the Pod has to do for now.  The backing is just a free MIDI version of the track which I loaded into Garage Band and tried to put some slightly better sounds on.

I love these pickups so much.  Even through the Pod, which is an insensitive beast, I still feel there's plenty of tone there and through proper amps it's an absolute blast.  I figured since many people recommend Apaches for Gilmour based shenanigans I'd give it a go too. The mix-down has muddied the tone a lot but it's not a bajillion miles away I think.

Offered up as a gainier tone example of what Apaches are capable of.  I tried to play the first solo as close as I could remember it to the real one and the second solo is me wandering off on my own little tangent. :)

That backing track must have the most annoying synthesizer sound I ever came across.

I would have liked the guitar a bit more to the front in the mix, and maybe a bit more edge, but still the Apaches come through well. BKPs sound great, even through modelers (some people might disagree  8) )

Nice playing too, keep em coming!

Garage Band's synth options aren't the best I'm afraid.  I might fiddle with them again but I don't hold out much hope for an improvement without spending money.

Completely agree and the weird thing is that until Garage Band mixes it down that's what I'm hearing.  The mix-down really seems to muddy things up squish the top end of the guitar and unfortunately you have no control over how Garage Band mixes it down (unless I'm missing something).  I might try making things over bright and too up-front and mixing it down again to see if it ends up in the right place.

Things I have learned - Garage Band isn't very good beyond "basic musical sketch book" but then it's free with the computer so I can't really complain.

Update to Logic Pro, like I did. It's really worth it!

Yes, that's the sensible thing to do and if I start getting more serious about recording then I will.  At the moment recording's more just a fun thing to do with a spare evening for me so I don't really want to spend the money yet.  Eventually I suspect that I'll just cave and buy it.

A good friend of mine, who does a lot of drum and bass production, swears by Logic Pro and from what I understand drum and bass is really very mixdown critical so I'm sure it would be more than adequate for my modest needs.  Good advice, thank you.

LOVE the synth sound.

Very nice playing. Guitar needs to be WAY more up there in the mix.
