Same clip - Marshall VM / Axe through VHT / Axe direct - what's your verdict?

Allrighty, I did similar clips over the past months/years, different guitars but all mahogany with vintage/hot BKPs.

So here is the same-ish clip, once Marshall VM through Cab/SM57, once Axe FX through VHT2502 and SM57, once Axe direct.

What do you think of the 3? Can you guess which is which?

I'm really not sure. I'm rubbish at stuff like this but would go for:

A - AxeFX > VHT
B- AxeFX direct
C - VM

Probably completely wrong! They all sound good to me though, and I listened to them all through the internal speakers of my little laptop!

im not sure as im not really experianced to tell but A sounds best but a little 'fake?' computerized i guess?? C sounds good but weaker but also warmer..? n b just sounds weak and muffled with the midds n highs muffled ....

The lead lines sound better on B to me - more natural and full - plus Hunter sounds like he's responding to the amp better in his playing  :)  Rhythm parts are muffled though, as said above....

I agree with the leads. It was much louder when recording than yesterday, when I did the direct clips.

I did another version today, using the Recto New for the leads instead of the SLO, but again lower volume, here it is.

My favourite is B as well. Just sounds more natural as twinfan says. C sounds very thin in comparison.

Yeah I like B because it sounds like a real amp, lol. It's a bit more saggy. It doesn't mask your playing either.

The Axe seems like a great bit of gear, but I'm not convinced it's good enough to replace real valves yet!

my favourite is C. i reckon some post-prod eq tweaks could have covered up most of the differences though.

Did again some tweaking and reduced the gain/increased the openness a bit.

Now if this doesn't sound like Marshall, then I don't know what does , would you agree?

the axe is more "professional" sounding, but strangely enough i prefer the marshall. muffled, yes, with that hideous buzzing overtones that i hate in marshalls, but much more dynamic and tight (maybe it was just your playing, changing a bit through the different takes, though)...
