Hercules mini/i-stands for gigging?
« on: May 24, 2009, 11:50:43 AM »

Wondering, as I was looking for something compact for gigging, I ran across these Hercules stands, especially the GS402B and the new i-stand.

Anyone got any experience? Are they sturdy an keep your guitar safe in place? Anyone compared the two? Alternatives?

Probably not much use to you but I have 3 hercules wall hangers and they've all been really good, zero problems with them! So I would say they're a trusted brand.

I've got a couple of the GS402Bs - I like them, fold up neatly (suppplied with a small yellow bag) and don't take up much room. The 3 legs/arms are held in place by spring loaded buttons - occasionally difficult to press them back in to collapse the stand but as they are strong springs it means the stand is very firm.

That sounds cool. What about the weight of the stand and the safety on a possibly wobbly stage. Is it easy for the guitar to fall out?

I had two neck breaks in the past (Yamaha Acoustic and the Hamer Sunburst) and don't wanna experience it again.

Have used them with PRS, Les Paul, Tele, Strat and Ibanez - all supported well.

Here it is with my PRS

The bottom feet have a reasonable spread and as the bottom supports are low to the ground (the guitar is virtually resting on the floor) it has a low centre of gravity and seems fairly stable. The foam/rubber material seems to hold the guitar well (without any signs of damaging the guitar finish) and the stage would have to be fairly wobbly to cause problems.

I have the iSTAND and it is a clever product but no good for gigging. If your guitar is pushed from the side it will fall right out.

I use the Hercules 2 and 3 arm Auto Grip System guitar stands for gigs.  Still quite compact and really solid.  No problems so far and I'd totally recommend them:

Those look quite good, Twinfan. I can't use the other type (not quite true, but true for most of them!) as my vociferator isn't shaped symmetrically at the bridge end, so would touch the floor in one of those stands. Holding it by the neck looks a bit more reliable...

Those do look good.  I've got 4 of the Hercules wall hangers which use the same neck support/locking system, and they're really good.

you just need two more to fill the stand ;)
