Addicted to pedal building?
« on: May 24, 2009, 09:51:47 PM »
It started with this, a BYOC OD2 - TS-808 clone

Closely followed by a BYOC 2 Knob Bender (though mine has 3) - MkII Professional Tonebender clone

Then I went proper DIY with a EH LPB-1 clone feeding a valvecaster. Essentially a valve boost with a transistor boost on the front of it that can make the valve go mental, almost a valve fuzz. Great sounding thing. Shame I made it long before I had any idea what enclosure it was going into, so the wires are, err, a little long. That and when I did sort the enclosure, I drilled it for smaller pots than I had so the holes needed to be 'adjusted'. Hmmm, anyhow it works so well that there's no way I'm going to rehouse it just for prettiness sakes.

Finally, a BYOC Script 90 - Phase 90 clone. Topical decals if nothing else...

I'm not an addict...

...Ok so I have a Marshall Shredmaster clone in build, a dying battery simulator for the fuzz after that and probably a one knob silicon fuzz...

But I can stop at any time!

They look great!

I really want to build some pedals myself (as well as a guitar at some point) but I'm horrendously lethargic, and tend to think I'd just end up with piles of rubbish when they eventually got finished

Oh I forgot about the amp ;)

Though I need to pull that apart at some point and replace all the caps are they're completely the wrong type rendering the gain and grit controls a little redundant...

But yes, massively addictive.

I completely love the case designs!

Even a completely non-guitarist friend of mine loves the Bender and Star Trek one, awesome.

Also... what's that kit car/caterham a-like on your website?

I really love those things, I'd have one as an every-day car if I wouldn't be deadly afraid of it being nicked!

Just built the mouse 2 and added the Ruetz mod but was thinking of the OD2 also, does the mouse cover a lot of ground that the OD2 does or are they completely different?  I can get some pretty decent OD tones from the MOSFET clipping selection so just wandering if the OD2 would be worth it, how do they compare?

Yeah definitely getting hooked, think I'll go with the chorus next and then perhaps something none BYOC from scratch.
Mine certainly won't be looking as good as theese though!

It's a Westfield, similar to a Caterham, but more of a kit car if you see what I mean. Top toys. I used to have a Cosworth powered one before that one and that was just mental. A little too mental most of the time in all honesty and I've toned it down a lot with the new one. Still 165bhp in 535kgs still goes like hell. They're not really everyday cars though. In the rain you will get soaked. Even the ones with the heater/windscreen/doors/soft top really aren't what you'd consider watertight or civilised. Better just to abandon such uneccessary weighty items and condisder the car as a 4 wheeled motorbike and dress accordingly.

What I will say though is you need to have a go of one. There really is nothing like them and it really makes you redefine what you think about sports cars. To make matters even more interesting I'm actually dual driving this this year. Even lighter and a little more power, this time with aerodynamics and proper downforce! Awesome fun.

Oh it sounds like you're having a blast :) I'd love to be able to afford to go to race days, heck even having a car would be nice...

Must have a pretty nice job to be able to do stuff like that! I can't wait until I'm earning enough, I'm afraid that by the time I can even afford the car insurance all the oil will be used up and we'll all be using rubbish silent electric cars. Nothing beats the sounds of a good engine, I don't care if it wakes up the neighbours

I'm afraid I'll never get to have a Ford Shelby Mustang GT500, AC Cobra or a GT-40 (why are all my current favourites Fords?!)

Ah, I can dream I suppose...

One of the perks of being an geeky IT bod. There are plenty of downsides, but the pay is decent.

Good taste. I also have a weakness for Ford lumps and old Fords. Older cars are the way forward anyhow, most modern stuff leaves me cold.

I'm well impressed with the Phaser clone you had done - being a Trekkie as a kid that really appeals to me, I'd buy that off you in a heartbeat :D

Love the graphics on the OD-2 as well (which I'd take off you too given half a chance but I've got one of the high gain BlackStar Pedals which is pretty much the perfect pedal for me).

Very good work from all! Wish I had the skill to solder/do the graphics
GREAT GOOGILY MOOGILY!
