This was originally going to be a Coloursound 1 knob fuzz clone, but I managed to find a schematic for one of the earlier DAM Meatheads (there have been several revisions), so thought I'd give that a go instead. Pretty cool. I ended up making a pair of them anyhow (one for Marauder) which are pretty much identical apart from the LEDs (mine's the violet one in the corner, his is the orange one in the R).

I was having camera issues also. The Dirt Boxes are actually very deep purple, more so than it shows in the pictures. The Master Shredder came out looking like two shades of green for some reason... It's more like the photo with the flash (Kawasaki green).

Are you talking about Vibe-o-tronic (UK Distributer), they've just re-stocked (though they didn't get any Muffs :( ). No idea for anywhere else.

Yeah. They still don't have the Tremolo or the Opto Comp or the Mighty Mouse or the E.S.V Fuzz, or some others, but I'm not interested in them.

Built for Marauder based on the EF86 Valve Distortion vero, but with a 6BR7 instead which is not only massively cheaper, it doesn't have any microphonic problems (which is why it was made in the first place). It has different pinouts however so isn't a straight swap. Also added is some diode clipping on a switch. The only thing that's a bit odd at the moment is that the knob is far too high, this will be swapped for a Telecaster knob in due course, which doesn't look quite so ridiculous.

I'm really quite proud of the wiring on this one.

Next I think will be a Vibracaster (tube boost/tremolo) for me. But based on this valve, purely for just how clean this pedal was boost-wise. That and it gives me an excuse to jam the tremolo circuit in there. I haven't decided but I might stick the LPB-1 in there also on a stomp. Ambitious..., possibly. Then Marauder is wanting a Marshall Shredmaster clone. It'll keep me busy, that's for sure.

very nice - I'm always looking for alternative preamp pentodes as EF86s are stupidly expensive and go microphonic  very quickly used in amps at gig volumes.

you got a schematic for that pedal? - I'm assuming the voltage is kept low, I can't see any doublers or charge pumps in there ????

It's this, but with the pinouts swapped for the 6BR7 vs the EF86 and some diode clipping on the switch. There's really nothing to it. We're running it at 12v.

I'd be looking to feed the valve with a HV supply - might as well if you're going to the trouble of building it, it's only a small mains tx, something like a 150-0-150 would be spot on.

(thinking out loud), wonder how a little 12v (dual tap) transformer would work out with the windings in series (24vac), then into a diode bridge (hmm, scratches chin).  it wouldn't get anywhere near 150v on the plates of the EF86, but it'd be more in the ballpark than a 12vdc supply.

Sounds like a plan. Marauder has the pedal now (plus I have nothing to record it with anyhow) so no chance for clips I'm afraid :(

Great looking pedals.

I LOVE the idea, did a BYOC 250 clone, and that was great.  Then tried an OLC Orange Peel, and screwed that up.  And just tried a BYOC OD2, and managed to screw that one too...

 :(

I might have to accept that I'm just not that good at it.

Another built for Marauder who is not so keen on the more outlandish designs I like, and prefers ones that 'aren't as fussy'. Fair enough, I'll be making up for this shortly if mine works when I finish it shortly... Anyhow, back to this one. It's a Shredmaster built on the BYOC board with enormous caps as that's all we had lying around. Nothing too radical here, the Bright switch swaps a cap to brighten it up a bit on demand as mine can be a bit dark on humbuckers but is brill on single coils (I'll be adding this to mine also). The Crunch mode switch just flips between sync and async clipping.

Piccies (the sockets are ancient, hence the splurgage and the decal stretched when I stuck it on, bar-steward thing!).

Another EF86 Valve Distortion, again built with a 6BR7 instead. A bit more abitious this one with added tone and gain controls. Additionally a multitude of clipping options on a rotary switch. LED jammed up the valve socket as usual.

I really don't like big decals, this one has a couple of defects :(

Great looking pedals, I'd love to hear them.  The only thing is I'd be worried about kicking the valve when I was using it (especially the smaller one).  You do incredibly neat wiring too!

All the valve ones so far are being used at home only so it's not that risky. However if I was doing one for someone who planned on using it in anger, I'd probably have to move it to inside the enclosure or put a bar in front of it or something. I might try and make the next one a bit more robust in that respect and see how it works. The wiring I'm definitely getting better at the more I do!
