ahhh, rage!!! new faulty psu day!!! now NNBD
« on: May 27, 2009, 04:18:15 PM »
ordered new pc parts the other day, had to get the psu I wanted from somewhere else and it came today.... someone's wacked it in the corner and the edges are bent and there is a gap in the corner big enough to almost get my pinky in!!!

so I'm getting it returned and I'm taking the rage out with a forum post....

I'm hoping I get a replacement before all the other parts come on Tuesday

When was 'the other day'?

If it was Friday or Thursday I'm sure you'll get it before the parts arrive, if not the same day.

Request pics of finished PC too!

The fan on my PSU died a while back, I keep meaning to replace it but... i can't be bothered.

Keeps reaching over 80c inside though, nice and toasty.

Great in winter.

er..... I really would get that replaced, or at the very least put a fan on it, especially if it's cheap kind, heard enough stories of black smoke and fried computer parts

Ailean: I'm still waiting for the PSU, I sent it back on Saturday, the company doesn't know if they have it yet because it takes them 2 days to put stuff though the returns system, and they don't have any in stock now so I'll have to wait a "week" for them to get new stock

the new 24" TFT monitor came on Tuesday though, it's pretty sweet, although moving the old broken 22" 30kg CRT monitor, I had bad posture and it slipped out my hands onto the new apple keyboard, my own daft fault but the keyboard survived with a minor dent, I can only see it if you look for it, it's a bit annoying knowing it's there though when it's a week old!

had to return the CPU cooler and get a new one too because it's too big to fit in the case!!! I research everything and still got something wrong!!! I've got sloppy, ordered a 92mm cooler last night with a DVI cable because the monitor only came with a VGA cable at 4pm last night, came this morning!!! sent back the other cooler for a refund

by the time I got this PSU, if anything else turns out faulty, which I doubt, it'll be past the 10 days in which I can get it replaced with free delivery, and I hope I don't end up waiting 4 months like I did for my amp because the new ATI cards will be out then and all my these parts will have depreciated before I've even used them!

Yuck :(

I've built most of my previous PC's, but I have to say, the next one might be a pre-built Dell or something, jusat coz it's easier!

Yeah, I really should but she's holding out real well.

Been slapping pc's together since I was 11, ain't had a single problem yet and oddly I kinda want to see what happens/how long it'll last.

It's been a good 5 months now.

It only really gets bad when I'm playing games with everything up, which is rare these days.

I'm going to have to change this stock intel CPU fan too, it's good but... not good enough.

Gah, I wish I'd had kept on route to working in IT. I only stopped because I'd rather die than work on an IT Help Desk...

An IT helpdesk isn't the only route into IT. I started as a Junior Developer. Not too late to try Adam.

Yeah, I guess I panicked.

Soft Dev? hmm... a possibility. Then again so is Systems Analysis and Design/Business Analyst.

No matter what I do I'm going to end up going back to college/university.

Maybe not. The current economic climate won't work in your favour, but if you've got some IT chops then put out a CV to some IT companies and see if they are willing to train you. If it's what you want to do, it can't hurt to fire off a few emails with your CV on it.

I got lucky, my Dev post came from within the company I was working for at the time, they couldn't find a Junior Dev, one of them knew I have IT background and told me to apply. I got made redundant a year later (D'oh!) but I had my foot in the door, just over 2 years later I'm the sole IT guy for a mortgage broker covering both systems and development. (I know sod all about systems, but the systems guy left and I've had to pick it up!)

do dell still use none standard parts these days? the only reason I self build is I get exactly what I want with the right quality, the gfx card is the only thing I'll be upgrading in the next 5+ years so I'd rather have a good one, than a dell built to a price one

1080p movie trailers off the apple site are sweeeeeeeeet
