If I was building a really high spec then I'd get either an Alienware setup (or similar) or build my own. But my requirements are much lower these days.

Dell will build a system to your spec out of the parts they stock, and they do have some high end gear available. Not as much choice as when you build your own, but pretty good, and pretty much certain to work! And the warrenty is with one company, not a load who will blame your problems on the other componants.

I said IF I were building a high end system. If I had that much money to blow on a PC I'd buy another amp :)

I did know that Dell are advertising a very cool looking Alienware laptop on their website, but I didn't know they'd been bought out.

anyone want to buy my desktop (without monitor and keyboard/mouse) for about £500 (£650-700 new last year)? :P Not going to happen but I really want to downsize as I never use it properly, I cant afford anything else til I sell this though.. Gonna try and take some nice photos of it, really hype it up and put it on ebay for what I want, see if anyones silly enough to pay it haha

Hahahaha :D

That'd be hillarious if someone did, you could buy a £500 computer that would vastly out spec last years £700'er

I'm so glad I started building my own from an early age.

Apparently I should only get £300-350 for it :( Not nearly enough, I sort of want a nice shiny macbook haha

The only thing I'm worried about with a laptop is rendering for 3d stuff, how well do they cope with it?

The new MacBooks have reasonably decent graphics cards. An NVIDIA GeForce 9400M I think.
Actually... looking at the Apple website, they seem to have reverted back to the old-design plastic (or "polycarbonate") MacBooks (albeit still with the updated graphics card), does anyone know anything about this?

Yeah, a computer is already out of date by the time you get it and they depreciate quicker than a bugatti veyron. (half a million in a month, ouch)

I've not once sold on a PC simply because it's not worth it.

I'd just keep a hold of it... some laptops are okay for rendering, but i know how painstaking the render times are for you ;) i'd if anything keep the desktop just for rendering whilst you use a laptop to do stuff.

I heard from the keynote that the MacBooks were going to be more thin, they look it for sure. Not sure if I like the new look or not... I still hate the price, it still makes zero sense.

I thought it was always plastic on the macbooks and alluminium on the macbook pros?

The log from the keynote said that Macbook was gone and they'd all be called Macbook Pro now.

Haven't checked up to see what's what, don't care to either, they're about 3x-4x the price that they should be.

almost 2 weeks since I sent the PSU off now, it's finally gone through their returns system, and now they ain't getting any more in stock, so got refunded, don't think I'll be using those guys again

researched what was best out of what I could get my hands on for my needs, ordered and crossing my fingers I might get it tomorrow
