London is my least favourite place in the UK. It would be my personal hell to live there.

I know a lot of (mostly younger) folks love the cosmopolitan, exciting feel of the place, but for me it's all just rush, rush, rush, completely impersonal, with people all around trying to fleece you or rip you off for whatever they can.

If you value time, relationships and space then I'd stay away.   And, no, I'm not criticising ANY individuals that live there, but am generalising about the place (which is what this thread is surely about, eh ?).

I think typical london rents circa £240 a week for 2 bed house to put into context similar in say Rochdale £80 a week. For teaching London allowance is circa £6000 which covers around £75 /week after tax so difference is around £80 week in pocket.

Well I've seen places from £400 a month, to £1000 a month or something crazy like that.

Oh yeah, Brazil must be terrible, all that sun and the beaches don't know how you cope.

That beautifull beaches you saw (taking out Rio de Janeiro and perhaps more 3 or 4) don't have decent jobs... also travelling there isn't as cheap as you would think to us... And I hate hot wheater :? My city is half time gray and most time hot ¬¬

Not entering in the "third world problems" topic...

BUT, and it's not an irrelevant particular, brazilian girls are absolutely HOT! ;)

jokes apart i can understand you, italy and brazil have got very different problems (and social conditions) but i always feel like i'm living much worse than i could JUST FOR THE SAKE OF IT. italy has got a lot of awesome places, but it's a meager consolation when you see that the ONLY thing that actually works is the public health system... the rest is simply rubb*sh.
not entering the political topic...

 :(

Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

I pay £400 a month for a 2 bedroom end of terrace cottage (old stoneworks cottage built in 1875) with a nice garden on the edge of a village.  God bless Leicestershire, it might be flat as piss on a pate, but at least it's cheap.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Hey Dheim, at least you have a public health system, not even this we have

But I got reports that Italy is not that good for a while, probably because of this "pig" you show us :D

well, I'd offer some advice as to where to go...

BUT I'VE NEVER BEEN TO THE UK!!!!!

Ummm.......if you value your life stay away from Texas (people here just shoot each other at random!)

If you want some serious awesomeness....move to Japan!

Other than that, I can't wait to visit for Reading Festival '10 WOOT!!!!!

The problem with London is that if you're a humble public servant then accomodation is going to eat the bulk of your income.

That problem is not exclusive to the 'humble public servant', it canes all of us.

people tend to lump 'London' into one collective opinion - there are so many districts that you can have whatever type of life you want out of the place (from what I've seen anyway).

Kew Gardens is seriously nice AND you're close to Chandlers just 5 mins off the tube.  Oh, and there's a Starbucks serving caramel fraps (Mmmm!!!) just beside the tube.  St Johns Wood looks very quiet and leafy too.

I've probably named two very expensive areas of London to live in, but my point is that there ARE nice areas and it's not all hustle and bustle.

I will say though, I've never got into random conversations with strangers in London whereas you can easily strike up some banter with people in Newcastle at gigs or out on the piss.  You dont get those simple gestures like a 'good morning' or whatever either - I like that aspect of living in a smaller city.  Saying all that though, I do like London alot.
