i see people doing this every time i go in a book shop. they keep picking them up, looking at the front, then the back.  some they put back, some they buy... very few seem to actually read the book before buying :?  oh well, I suppose judging a book by its cover is probably better than those adverts for crime novels they put on TV occasionally as if it was a film

i must admit i thought krank were a budget brand aimed at teenagers.  Thats just what the aesthetics suggested to me.

The Competition is DEFINITELY a try before you buy amp! It's much brighter than a Nitro, Pro Stock, Quick Rod, etc.

James on here had one and it took my damned head off, insanely bright. Put me off Splawn amps completely.

I want to add to this discussion:

First, I was living in London for a whole year prior to moving to Birmingham and I saw Krank amps there ONCE, despite going to many stores (actually looking for amps to try out) and going to many metal concerts! So frankly put I don't believe people really who claim to know exactly how they sound - they are just too rare in the UK.

Second I actually own a Krank Rev Jr. It is a very nice amp and is pretty much in the same high-gain league like my 5150 (which I also own, btw) or Marshall JVM or Laney. Is it better? Hell no. It is worse? Not either. It just is maybe different, but the EQ range on it is actually really wide and it just adds to #1 - if you actually haven't owned one I would be wary.

And third I hate when people come along with this "my amp is better than your amp"-attitude or the "your amp sucks because only xxxxxx-brand is much better". This is not about penis length. A friend of mine would have shredded the hell out of most people on his guitar, he just could play and sound great.... on a small Marshall tube combo!!!! (A 6100). He didn't need expensive boutique halfstacks, he didn't are much about brand names either (he still plays his Godin mostly and now teaches somewhere in Germany). 

It just kind of made me realize, how many guitar players, including me, put just way too much focus on gear. WAY too much!

There are so many factors in the chain between guitarist and ear I very much doubt definitive conclusions can be drawn from any demo, patronage etc. You put it in your rig adjust it as you see fit then either loath it, love it or two figs it.

i've seen the rev jr for sale in london but that is the only one. Actually, ive seen more than that, cant remember the others. there was a shop on denmark street that had a few.

I hope you're not accusing me of being "my amp better than yours", i said nothing of the kind.

we all do it everyday - stuff has to appeal to our aesthetic sensabilities for us to want it. Or it at least has to fit in with what we think it should look like

Well, you're not that far off. Most of us Brits are going to think something similar when we hear the name, let alone actually seeing one.

They're really going to struggle over here, that's for sure.

However, I can see the American market absolutely loving them. And they're priced better over there, too.

I'm afraid they're just far too expensive once they cross the pond, just like Mesa/Boogie's. Except with those, the name, the look, everything says high end to us. The Krank's just don't, if they were about 30% cheaper than what I've seen so far then maybe they'd have a shot.

But hey, cracking the UK market isn't going to bring them much extra cash. The American market is more than enough for most companies. They'll do fine, and I'm sure they're fine amps. Haven't heard any horror stories yet.

I said exactly the same thing to them when I got a beta tester of the Rev+ amps a couple years ago! The graphics on my Revolution Series One are OK, and the Chadwick is classy, but you're right, the JR and Plus models DO look like Playskool toys!

Seriously though, they are built as tough as Tonka trucks and the lifetime warranty ensures you will have an excellent amp throughout your formative years!   :lol:
