Depends how much money you have to spend, and also what you want to play and sound like.

Fulltone's Fulldrive 2 has an amazing reputation, and has some impeccible reviews also ( i have never tried it ) There is also the Fulltone OCD which sounds quite interesting - adding overdrive overtones to emulate the response of the "great" amps (vox ac15, marshall 18watt etc.)
The entire keeley modded Tubescreamers and SD-1s are great pedals for the money (you can heard them in action on Tim's clips on this forum) good for rock!
For heavier stuff you could check out the Wylde overdrive which people seem to like a lot around here.
The HBE Dos Mos is also a greatly favoured one around here - boutique quality, great sound. i think somebody posted a full review of it on this forum a while back (was it you Ben?)

I'm also quite interested in this post, as i'm looking for a good quality overdrive to hotrod the JCM800. I'm thinking along tubesceamer lines. really i want some vintage, but high powered sounds out of it. VH brown sound, but with more gain
LOVING the Mules!

The HBE Big D is a great pedal, there's a review from TO on the forum somewhere - it has five overdrive settings, from mild to fuzz, and a hard/soft clip setting.

The Analogman King of Tone is my personal fav....really open, very dynamic in responding to how hard you play, not muddy and no midrange hump like a TS9.

I'm not a fan of the Fulldrive, it compresses to much and I find it muddies my dynamics and pick attack too much. But if you like a singing warm overdrive with lots of compression, it could be for you.

Keeley electronics Tubescreamer mods are very warm but still dynamic,
i love mine for certain,
The old style big box marshall guvnors are excellent for cooking off the front end a jcm 800, not as smooth as the Keeley TS tho',

the fulltone fulldrive didn't do a whole lot for me, bit sludgy and over compressed,

for value there is a lot to be said for the original boss SD1 it's good and crunchy if a little tame for adding to a very clean amp setting,

S.

I have a Keeley RAT which I bought for cheap from HJM. Its great. There are 3 different settings, one is the "orginal" but done up a bit, middle is just a booster, 3rd is just the normal rat but smoother apparently. I actually like the original mode best, but the 3rd setting would be nice and smooth for you  :D

I just picked up a Maxon OD9 and I'm loving it with my JCM800, a very warm OD. I was previously using a Keeley SD-1 and Keeley TS-9/808.

I was seriously tempted by the Maxon OD9 when I was last in the US.  Sounded very nice, well capable of zinging into a Santana-ish lead sound -- and without utterly breaking the bank.   However, I've got BKPs to save for first! :)

Haven't tried any HBE's, though I've heard good things about 'em.

Anyone know how good the Keeley TS-9/808 is or the HBE Power Screamer?

What is the warmest, natural overdrive pedal around in peoples opinion?

When people use words like warm, I cringe a bit, because to me "warm" can also be euphonic. What sounds nice and laid back to one person may be too soft and tubby for another. In contrast, a clean, dyanamic pedal to one person might be too edgy and flat to another.

I think that overall the HBE would be too clean for what you're looking for. Try before you buy that one.

Euphonic pedals always seem to get in the way, to my ears, but there are a few really good pedals out there. In no particular order:

The Reezafratzis (spelling, Brow?) is very warm, lush and euphonic.

The Fulltone Full-Drive II is a great sounding overdrive with a mid peak and built-in compression.

The Klon Centaur is a great, warm OD.

No offense, but stay away from the Tube Screamer, Boss ODs and the like if you can afford to. I think they sound terrible. (Please don't flame me for this!!)

I agree with you Ben.

When I was in NY and we went pedal shopping, the EMMA ReezaFRATzitz (which I really liked) was too 'warm and tubby' in your opinion, whereas the HBE Big D (which you really liked) I found it to be too bright sounding.

It's all horses for courses in the end :)

I think Brian May has a wonderfull warm overdrive tone. Does he still use the Deacy amp as an overdrive unit?

With my JCM800, I was using the Keeley modded TS-9/808, the Keeley modded SD-1, now I just purchased the Maxon OD-9 (leaving this one stock) and it sounds killer. I don't know but lately, I've been in stock mode. I can faintly hear some unnatural artifacts in the modded pedals, almost like an unnatural buzz especially surrounding individual notes during soloing. The Maxon does not exhibit this at all.
