Propellerhead Record - Finally a DAW I like the look of!
« on: June 09, 2009, 04:15:01 PM »
Well, here it is...

http://www.propellerheads.se/products/record/

I've been waiting years for them to come out with a DAW, after being a massive fan of Reason for years I knew it'd be brilliant and this REALLY looks great for people who want a DAW that just works.

I'm not sure what it's going to support VST's or not yet though, anyone know more than me about it?

Even if it doesn't... I can use re wire to use them when I need to.

I'm excited :D

It's the same people as far as I know. I've got Decks and drums and rock and roll here, might put it on now you've mentioned it  :D

I used to play about a bit with Reason, got a DJ mate who's wicked with it.  He used to just sit in the corner of my room (when we got back from the pub) and supply the music (he had his sound banks loaded on my computer).

Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Wow, thanks for the link. I think it looks great. At 300USD, it isn't disgustingly expensive, either. I'll have to look into Reason, too :)

I'm liking the look of this, and I'm a confirmed Cakewalk user (Home Studio 2004).

Right at the moment though, I'm exclusively using my Boss Micro BR palmtop for all recording, mixing, and mastering - and I'm getting far better results out of it than I've ever managed out of my DAW (or out of professional studios I visited when I was younger!).

However, I'm starting to feel, with the stuff I'm learning on the MBR, that I could get some stuff done a lot quicker with an up-to-date DAW on a decent PC.

I've been planning on Sonar whenever I get me a new PC, but this looks like a bit of a contender...

talking about the interface, propellehead software has got that analog vibe that's very inspiring but sometimes confusing... for example i think i prefer the "digital" effects and EQ section in cubase, it's easier to tweak without having to navigate through endless rows of virtual knobs...
PH's philosophy works greatly in reason, i'm not sure of how it will work in a DAW... but i can't wait to see it!

I think your feelings are correct. Once the DAW and your interface are set up, it's a cinch to get high quality recordings!

Looks okay... doesn't seem to do anything that Pro Tools and Logic can't though.
The main selling point for it is that it's super dumbed-down - great! :?
I expect it'd be fine for inexperienced musicians making demos, but so is Garageband and so is Reaper. And they're free!

I dunno, compared to Cubase, it doesn't seem "dumbed-down" so much as "not stupidly designed" ;)
