Abraxas Set
« on: October 25, 2005, 07:12:41 PM »
I got my Abraxas set in my guitar a week ago. I put it in a Washburn LP, and I play it through a Marshall AVT50.

I thought I should play it for a while instead of posting my thoughts after a power chord. This set is great!!  I like them much more than my previous pickups(SD).

The alnico IV is what I wanted from my Alnico II bridge, but never got.  I'm really impressed with how well the pickups handle the bass.  Before I always thought my pickups and amp were boomy, and I had the back cab of the speaker taken out to let some of the bass out.  Now the cab is back in and I have a really good Bass/Mid thump under gain that Alnico II would probably just turn to mush and booms.  I like the neck a lot more than the Alnico Vs I've tried.   It can handle gain a lot better than the ones I have tried!  No boom either!

These pickups are excellent.  I get great cleans to insane metal!  One thing I noticed is that minor mistakes in my playing stick out a bit more which I think is a good thing, so I can get rid of them.

The middle position actually got wired out of phase on accident, but I like the sound out of it.  When the middle position and the neck pickup split,  I get some good single coils sounds.(Good for me I don't have a single coil guitar)

Now I want a Warpig! hah

I'll try to get some clips up soon.  When I get good!

Many thanks to the forum users, and Tim and Steve at BKP for helping me!

ditto, me too and we've got a lovely Legra guitar that Bob has lent us to demo them in!

Glad you like them.............I think of them as a higher output Mule and it's surprising how versatile they are too. 8)

Thanks,

I was in such a rush getting out the door (doctor) that I forgot some stuff.  The harmonics are great too.   They are usually pretty hard on the thicker strings (E,A), but they are coming out a bit more now.   PDT_045 :teeth:

I'm not sure of the word to describe it, but it kind of sounds like my amp had a thick blanket over the speaker, and now its removed.  I guess more open, would be right.

I tried and fail to get this guitar plugged into a tube amp, but my friend's gear is in boxes right now.  cr@p.

Awesome!  What are you putting the Abraxas into?  I would like to hear how it compares to the other pickups you have.

Hi, i put them in a reverse headstock alder bodied strat with a maple board (made it myself!).They really seem to calm down the bright guitar and fill out alot of bottom end.
I will record one of my track tomorrow and hopefully have it on the sight later in the day.Im a recording junkie!!
What guitar are yours in?
Mule,Trilogy,Irish Tours,Holy Diver and Apaches.

Washburn CTS, single cutaway LP style.

I don't have any good quality recording equipment, and I make lots of mistakes anyways.  Still trying.

I noticed a lot of low end too!
