So is that a relic of a tobacco burst strat that's been painted over in white and then played a lot.  I don't mind relics, but I thik I'm more than capable of knackering up a guitar myself.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

There's a similar one at Guitar Village, although they call it a 1960 rather than '62.  I think the white-over-sunburst looks absolutely un-$%&#ing-believably awesome!

On the neck, I think they strip the finish but leave it clean so you can add your own dirt, burger grease, nose-pickings etc....

If it had a fat neck, I'd want that so badly.  But if it really is a '60 (or even '62) spec, the neck is probably pretty skinny.  I'd love to try one, but.... too scary.  :x

Weird... I really don't know where I stand on relics, I seem to be in the "no problem with them, but not for me" camp.

This one kind of embodies that:

I look at it and go "woo! pretty looking geetar..."

Then I hear it's a "relic" and I switch off (I do go and look at the price just to check it costs what I think it will - and it does). It's still pretty, but all lusting disappears immediately.

It looks like a lovely job. If one of you guys bought it and posted on here, I'd be all over it with "great looking guitar..." etc - but personally I feel nothing approaching desire once I know it's a relic...

Must say that I am in the "I just don't get it" camp too

If you want one that looks knackered - buy an old one!

The thing is, none of us is ever going to be able to afford a real early-'60s Strat which looks like that *.

So anyone who likes/wants that vibe can only get it by buying a relic.  I'd like one because

(a) I think it looks great, I don't care whether it's 50 years old or 50 days old.
(b) it would be totally liberating to have a guitar I didn't care about scratching or denting!
(c) it has the look of an old guitar but none of the potential problems like worn-out parts.
(d) there'd be no "bad karma guilt" about changing parts, routing the body etc.

I know some people say they'd rather buy a new guitar and just play the hell out of it, but I could own a guitar 100 years and it would never get really beaten up.  It's just my nature to be paranoid about that first scratch or dent.  And when I do pick up a scratch, I don't leave it, I go and repair it.

Oh god, I wish you hadn't started this thread, Dave.

If it's like the sea foam green ltd. one they did it will be a very, very nice guitar.

Old ones are:

a) More expensive
b) A complete gamble, as you could be buying a partscaster or a fake

Relic guitars are like stone-washed denim jeans to me.  They feel nicer than stiff and scratchy dark blue ones  ;)

To the haters - it's just a cosmetic finish guys.  Get over it!
