it's been probably eight years since I've had a Strat and I don't miss them one bit - Teles are where its at with Fenders.

Just been catching up on developments on this thread...

and...

http://www.peachideas.com/acatalog/copy_of_Fender_1962_Strat_Stripped_finish__5999.html

Now that's what I'm talkin bout :D

Lookswise (and mojo), beats the original one posted hands down for me...

LOVE that one... that's a bit what my buggered JV looks like now (except that it took a lot of Winsor Newton acrylic glazes to generate that sort of colour/effect over the horrid matchstick stuff it's made of!)

... however, cute as it is, hands still in pockets

hands in still pockets too..

i think one of the reasons is i know how uninspiring even a strat which should be amazing can be (IMHO).. i'm lucky to have a truly great strat, and so i have absolutely zero GAS for getting another one.

A satin finished neck and rolled fingerboard makes my guitars feel 'worn in'. It does look good but I'm afraid I don't think much of relics.

I really like it but my strat GAS has also gone since I got my G&L Legacy. That's a trans blonde with tort plate too.... just needs a set of Irish Tours to make it all I need in a Strat.

Strats (either with vintage-style pickups or vintage-styled replacement pickups) are the best guitars.  :D Especially the late-'65 through mid-'71 kind.

Except when I play my old 335, Esquire, or Les Pauls. Then I am not 100% sure.  :?

I played my strat last night. It sounded week and I'm now not liking the neck on it (it's all maple with a vintage radius).

Basically I have been using my Les Paul and Tele pretty much all the time for the last few weeks and am now getting to like flatter radius necks with a slightly chunkier profile.  A bit of a surprise to me as I have always favoured thinner necks.

The strat (with Apaches) also sounds a little 2 dimensional compared to the Mules in the LP. Again this is a surprise to me as I have always been a died in the wool single coil strat person.

Hmmm, maybe I need to sell my strat and get myself a PRS (or a strat with a flatter radius and at least one humbucker, butnot more than 2!)
I think I hate being indecisive.

Not tempted by a 3-humbucker Strat, Ian?

(Anyone remember the Spin Doctors?)

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Nahh... I've had problems like this since getting into BKPs and acquiring bunches of different guitars. It's all in our heads and muscle memory.

Right now, you need to play the strat for a few days to get used to it again and find out what it does/did for you...

Then you need to play the "wotever" for a while, get used to that again...

etc...

Keep going round the guitars - don't try to play the "wrong sort" (for you) of music on each guitar, unless you're deliberately experimenting, that is. Use each tool for the job it's best at in your hands...

Go round that for a while, and you'll end up happy with all the different fingerboards, tones, etc
