Cant decide.....Too much choice..... brain frying.......
« on: October 26, 2005, 09:48:24 AM »
Im confused people.

I have A prs Cutom 22 brazilian. I play similar music to Led Zep, Stone Temple Pilots, Janes Addiction.ZZ Top, Free Blues and hard rock with a twist etc etc (see www.carmenpimps.com).

I dont know whether to go for the ABRAXAS or THE MULES. and another thing, whether i'll be able to keep the switiching setup on my prs with these pickups. The abraxas being hot rodded mules may do the trick as i find the Dragon II's muddy and not hot enough, not keeping with a rock vibe.

Advice please ??  ? ? ? ? ?

When you order the pickups, if you specify it is a set for a PRS, then they will reverse the magnet in one pickup so that the 5-way PRS switch works.  I have VHII's in my PRS Artist and they sound great with the switching.  Every single position is a great sound.  I have a set of Abraxas, but they are in a Les Paul and I only wanted to have the 2 wire set up (they are on a very old Les Paul and I didn't want to change anything else on the guitar).  This link gives a bit more information about them:
http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=942&highlight=abraxas

There are also sound clips in the players room.  The difference between the VHII and the Abraxas, as I hear then in my guitars, is the overall gain and the clean sounds.  The Abraxas is a hotter pickup and doesn't clean up as well as the VHII (but then again the VHII can get almost Fenderish with the PRS switching).  Not that the Abraxas doesn't clean up, but it is always driving, so if you have a high gain amp, you will need to bring the gain down a bit more.
So many pickups, so little time

The Abraxas sound awesome, one of my favourites!
If you can make it along to Music live we will have a PRS style guitar (made by forum member Bob Johnson) loaded with a calibrated set.
We will have plenty of stock, so you can purchase them there too!

What are your others favorites?  Warpig?  I want to try one of them!

Abraxas are very good. I really like the Alnico IV more than my previous Alnico II bridge and Alnico V necks.
