Newb here with questions.
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:53:53 PM »
First off Im playing on a Ibanez S5470.. Mahogany with maple top. Im looking to put either a Nailbomb, Painkiller, or Warpig in the bridge position. I mostly play Black Metal and Death Metal. I tune to C sharp so its no ridiculous down tuning. Im looking for a pup with pretty high output but one that retains A LOT of clarity and articulation. Which would you guys choose for this guitar and specifications?

Yeah I was thinking of getting the ceramic Warpig but Im not sure of its articulation. Also Im not sure of where to get this in the states. I know alnico are easy to find but Id rather have ceramic.

I live in the states and order my BKPs from the website. AV and Ceramic warpigs are just as easy to order, but I'm pretty sure you won't need a C-pig. The AV version is quite clear and articulate, and a ceramic magnet might provide just a bit too much drive for you.
BKP Team: Bridge MQ, Black. Bridge HD, Raw Nickel.
To Do: Bridge Nailbomb in chrome (?)

The more I read the more the Painkiller is looking appealing.

When in doubt Email Tim give him as much detail as you can and you will get the right pickup!

what kind of death/black metal do you play?
personally i've never fitted warpigs in an S, but i bet they'll sound awesome! nailbombs are GREAT pickups. for me they're the best lead pickups EVER, and work great in a melodic death setting, but if you play something more aggressive and "dirty" i fear you could find them too sweet for your needs.
painkillers are simply perfect for modern, ultratight death and thrash metal, but for more old school sounds (and the black metal bit tells me so) i'd say warpigs!
to complicate things a bit further i'll add holy divers... not too powerful, but they fit PERFECTLY your maple topped S...

anyway every BKP is full of definition and articulation, so you can't go wrong, whatever your choice will be.
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)
