hey, someone down the line mentioned an SLO100? i want to jump on that one, because im a huge soldano fan.. unless anyone here has an SLO (and if you do, i want to hear from you because i want to get a comparison) the next best thing is a hotrod 50+ which im just lucky enought to own..
i bought this amp to do high gain rock. its a simple amp, we're talking a single eq and 2 channel volumes and gains. so you'd think simple rock box that does heavy rock up to metal well..? i thought so, its why i bought it, but it does so much more.
i have the "clean" channel set for the mildest hint of breakup, from here and depending on pedals you can go almost anywhere in the blues to metal range. tubescreamer, you got SRV, good Fuzzface clone ( i recommend an OXFUZZ) you got hendrix, good Big muff style pedal and overdrive for boost and you have gilmore, with my KOT you get the 70's crunchy kinda skynard thing..
set the gain up on the lead channel and you have G&R up to slayer with a good booster and some guitar volume control. my own personal preference is a mega crunchy cantrell thing
other than an SLO i dont want another amp.
this thing loves pedals, great for texture, but doesnt need em. its definitely a crunchy amp as opposed to a smooth amp, but it drips with harmonics.
the only thing to watch out for is the XL mod, mike soldano can't stand it, andneother can i gets a bit flubby at higher volumes, but these guys are great, mike and his chief tech bill have both emailed me about an amp i didnt even buy new. they sent me the instructions and pics for how to remove the XL mod and without this thing sings..
