I have Reranch paint on the 1969 Strat in the "Eternal Verities" thread. Quite zesty, a little dark but colors from that era could vary a lot, depending on who supplied the paint. (Considering that Fender custom colors are just "ports" of auto colors, I personally wonder whether I could get the right nitro or acrylic lacquers at an auto paint supply in the US.)
The paint took a while to cure but they can get good Fender, Gibson and other colors, and their forum is very knowledgable.
Wez is right though - use some throw-away stuff for practice and spend your time on good prep work. Any flaw or scratch will be magnified in the finished product.
