Hi guys !
I am looking for something :
- to pratice at home on playback with a efficient time stretch function
- to record myself with the natural sound of my amplifier (or with amp / effects modelisations)
After looking at the possible options I know, I ended (sadly) on the fact that using a computer was - at the end - the easiest way to proceed.
I have ANY knowledge in both recording devices AND modelisation systems... I'd like to know what you could advice me :
1- using a POD X3 Live (Tonelab or similar dunno what's the best...) and using it as 2 devices in one :
*replacing my stompboxes when plugged into my valve amp
*using the modelisation parts when plugged into the computer for recording and jamming
The problem is that I am GASing for a TC electronics Nova System at the moment. I don't know if the quality of the POD will be equivalent, especially as for the analog effects....
2 - using a Tone port for recording and jamming (with additionnal softwares) and keeping my actual rig
3 - using a JamVox and keeping my actual rig
4- What else ?
.......But I don't know if the toneport and jamvox are
*serious* solutions :
- I have no idea if the modelisations are good or not (I fear them to impart a loss of natural sound of my guitar and pickups...), but maybe I can use a microphone in front of the amp ?
- I don't know if the mini monitor of the jamvox isn't more a toy than anything else, and if yes what affordable monitoring solution do you recommend instead of that ?
- are the included softwares simple to use and good enough or are they tooooo much amateurish ? The jamvox software seem to be really efficient to practice at home, especially the GXT (Guitar XTracktion) feature. look at this :

The idea is
to pratice and have fun at home with something simple to use (I am not a professional looking for professional results !)
cheers !
