gotta share this!

a little while ago i can across a couple of pieces of macasser ebony that seemed absolutely perfect for making 1-piece necks, fender style - with the truss rod installed from the back and no seperate fretboard.  not many pices of wood like this available

Its taking a while but i finally have one nearing completion.

so its mac ebony neck, red wenge skunk stripe and wenge heel cap - absolutely no finish or polish, just sanded to a shine... and it will get shinier








its going on a modern style tele body that will be auctioned off for charity once its all done




still not sure if it will get those black emeralds or a set of zebra cold sweats that were donated to the project a while back (this ebony has slowed me right down!)

the plan is cancer research - i havnt actually sorted all that out yet so the plan is not set in stone as to how it will be auctioned off!

and i am talking 100% of sale price going to cancer research - not just profits.  The finish is another done by Mike Lennon, this one for free

well i am still prepared to scr@p the neck if it ends up being tonally dud - but i dont think there is much chance of that as these planks rang like a bell and couldnt have a more perfect grain if they tried

Normal black ebony is quite brittle and you couldnt do this with it - Macasser is a bit closer to rosewood in looks and tone.  Luckily it still has the silky smooth feel of ebony which should make this a very tactile playing experience.   Its also turning out lighter than i expected - which is a bonus!

oh, it looks 10 times better in the flesh but its damn hard to capture the shimmer you get from the lighter sections!

I love the idea of a totally unfinished neck, but they tend to be darker-coloured woods, which suit a modern-looking guitar like this but look a bit weird on more traditional Strats and Teles.
