Decided I'd best learn to bias an amp.
« on: June 20, 2009, 11:55:16 AM »
After watching the following video;
http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-Generic-Bias.htm
and reading through a few websites and books, I've seen that biasing an amp isn't NEARLY as complicated as the internet likes to make out it is.
I've bought myself an octal bias probe (http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/product_info.php/info/p471_Kit-Bias-Probe-Octal.html), and I'm pleased to say that from now on I will be re-valving and rebiasing my own amplifier, rather than paying 'the man' to do it for me.

Having a video show you how to do anything practically makes a world of difference to just theory. I often find the theory doesn't make much sense to me until I see it applied. Congratulations to EuroTubes for making something worthwhile!

Good decision.

Wear some rubber sole shoes, put one hand at your back when you fiddle inside, and don't touch the chassis. Best to also learn how to discharge the filter caps before going inside, as all else could be lethal.

Enjoy having properly set amps!

Great safety advice from Hunter. Have someone else in the room if at all possible too.

And probably be selective of who that person is, make sure its not one of your adhd friends, or someone who wants your guitars so wouldnt mind you being out of the picture.
