Yeah we read a lot about La Rambla being bad at night so we didnt go down there. It seemed ok in the day though apart from the "games of luck" scams that people fall for.

If you're talking about the Sagrada Familiar, then it's covered in scaffold because they haven't finished building it yet.  Did you get to take a walk up the spire, I don't mind heights but I found that a bit scarry.

I love Barcelona, it's about the only city I would want to live in.

Its the only city I've been in that I would like to live in, as well.

I wasnt just on about Sagrada Familia (I did know it was still under construction :P), the art museum, industrial park and cathedral all have scaffolding and cloth up them. We didnt go inside as it was packed, a boiling hot day and seemed expensive. Dont think I'd fancy a walk up the spire, the cable cars up montjuic were enough for me haha

That art museum did seem interesting, that statue you posted on your flickr page, the one of the women with the triangle head, was really amazing.  I probably should one day visit, any city Freddy Mercury sings a song about must be at least a little interesting!

I missed the cable cars, I can't remember if I was there for a day or two  :?

The wife got cheap tickets (she got us to Dublin for my birthday one year and the cost of the airport tax and a whole 1p)
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I loved Barca but sadly Mrs 38th was not over keen. I found a great little Catalan restaurant too but again Mrs 38th wasn't enjoying it as much as me. I would certainly want to go back but she isn't in any hurry.

Speaking of which after uni I want to do a gap year travelling, how do you even go about doing that and being able to afford it/live somewhere?

A common option is to go to a country which does a working holiday visa which most commonwealth countries do, Austalia, new zealand,  canada etc. They allow to stay for up to 12 months and work in the country to support yourself. As long as your under 30 and prove you have funds to get back to the UK (approx £2000) there should be no problem getting the visa. Lots of people get a Round the world ticket which you can get for around £900 (plus airport taxs of between £200-400 depending how many stops and countries), for example I have just bought a rtw ticket to go from Uk-Peru-Equador-Chile-New Zeland-Australia-Singapore-Thailand-UK for £1600 (inc taxes) this is the most expensive time of year to start the tickets and would be a lot cheaper without South america)  spend 6 months working in either Australia or new Zealand working saving as much money as they can to spend 3-6 months going round south east asia. For more info on thew working holiday visas http://www.gapwork.com/visas-australia-new-zealand.shtml

THanks for that. I dunno if I want to do Aus because everyone goes there but Canada sounds more appealing :) I want to do a bit of around the world though rather than just staying in one place for the whole time.

So you need 2 grand in the bank before you can get a visa really? That is going to be a problem, I cant find a summer job now and I'm not sure if I want to be working in my final year of uni..
