Just spent a week in Barcelona
« on: June 21, 2009, 05:44:19 PM »
I got back from a week in Barcelona yesterday, its such a nice city if you like architecture and arty stuff. Coming back to England was really depressing, I want to move somewhere nicer asap :( Speaking of which after uni I want to do a gap year travelling, how do you even go about doing that and being able to afford it/live somewhere?

If you havent been I would really recommend it. My favourite bits were all the Gaudi stuff and the Gothic Quarter, the buildings and streets are so nice.

If you're interested I have a load of photos up on my flickr page here (highlights include the fanny shop and gash bus  ) - http://www.flickr.com/photos/toddersby/sets/72157620064460866/

My only problem with it is the amount of renovation work which spoils the exterior of a lot of the buildings. The cathedral has cloth draped all over it and is covered in scaffold, as is the art museum. The industrial park is closed/being remade by the looks of things. And Sagrada Familia will probably never be finished

I'll give it a while before I go back but I would really like to. We found the Metro service really good as well, much easier to figure out and get around than the tube imo

The architecture is so good, if you like old interesting buildings then the gothic quarter will be right up your street. Its actually made me want to do a degree in architecture now haha. That'd be another £18k down the drain :\

Those pics look great!

I'm planning a weeks trip to Barcelona with my brother later this year. I've always wanted to visit Spain, Barcelona in particular, it looks like such a wonderful country. We are planning to book a tour of the Nou Camp Stadium, which to me, looks like one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world.

If you're talking about the Sagrada Familiar, then it's covered in scaffold because they haven't finished building it yet.  Did you get to take a walk up the spire, I don't mind heights but I found that a bit scarry.

I love Barcelona, it's about the only city I would want to live in.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I've been to Barcelona a couple of times on photo jobs at the Catalonia GP track. The city is a great place but do watch the pick pockets on Los Ramblas. I got robbed of around 130 quid down there one night. It does make you feel this place is a dump when you get back from some of mainland Europe's great citys

Yeah we read a lot about La Rambla being bad at night so we didnt go down there. It seemed ok in the day though apart from the "games of luck" scams that people fall for.

Its the only city I've been in that I would like to live in, as well.

I wasnt just on about Sagrada Familia (I did know it was still under construction :P), the art museum, industrial park and cathedral all have scaffolding and cloth up them. We didnt go inside as it was packed, a boiling hot day and seemed expensive. Dont think I'd fancy a walk up the spire, the cable cars up montjuic were enough for me haha
