What's your favorite whiskey (or vodka)?
« on: June 21, 2009, 11:16:26 PM »
Hi

So I have to admit my usual whiskey used to be Jack Daniels (Gentleman or just standard No7), but living in the UK there's just so much nicer (and not overpriced) whiskey available. Any recommendations of stuff you can get in local Tescos/Sainsburys/Selfridges?

My favorite Vodka handsdown is Absolut.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

I like Belvidere for Vodka.  I don't really drink Scotch whisky or Irish Whiskey - I just supply it to people who do drink it when they come around!  Popular ones at the moment are Tamnavulin and Isle of Jura.  Macallan, Dalwhinne and Balvenie always go quickly too!  I like Gin though, my favourite was Tanqueray Malacca which they discontinued but I like regular Bombay (not Saphire) and Tanqueray Ten.

bison grass - lovely with apple juice... normal vodka and apple aint nice but the bison grass is a bit spicy so it works well

i havnt had so much whisky recently but have been buying loads of Gin.  Tanqueray for the classics, Hendricks for something a bit different

Jack Daniels is for giving to people that you don't like! Jack Daniels versus a proper whisky (notice the spelling) is like comparing cream and piss. You can drink both but...

If you're judging whisky by the cost then you're missing out on a whole world of pleasure.

I adore Southern Comfort, I love to drink it neat (& yes I know it's a bourbon not a whisky)

Yeah guys Zubrowka Bison Grass as the best Flavoured Vodka here :

As for Whisky now....well I'm pretty sure there are some secret places in Scotland and Ireland where you can find awesome "local-no-named-distilleries" that do not compare to the renowned commercial brands... The thing is you need a map to find your way there, or you'll get lost. Don't the Scottish say whisky is "the water of life" ?

I had some the other week in one of the locals.  Never seen it before and I'll try to get the name, but it was 20 years old and quite possibly the foulest thing I have ever drunk.  It was all syrupy and tasted bloody aweful.

Cost me £3.50 for a single too.

Deanston 8yr is probably my favourite whiskey. I've not found it outside of Stirlingshire, though. Other than that, ardbeg and dalwhinnie are pretty decent.
As for Vodka, Bison grass all the way. The only Smirnoff I would touch is Black, and that's only just drinkable.
