It's all academic for me now anyway as I've developed an allergy to alcohol, I can sniff but not touch.  :(

i've never heard of alcohol allergy, but it's a TERRIBLE thing!

It makes me sick if I drink enough of it. I think it's quite a common problem! ;)

not whiskey or vodka but if you want some champagne, buy some British sparkling white wine called Nyetimber next time your in Waitrose, about £22 a bottle I think

loads better than all the French cr@p that pretends it's posh and expensive

As I am French, a good olde 50 year Cognac Héritage Prestige is my fav'. About other liquors, Zubrowka makes me happy but IMO most of whiskies doesn't deserve any interest; the Islay ones are the BEST. My prefered islays are Lagavulin 16, Bunnahabhain Toiteach and the marvellous Ledaig. I'd like some advices about good whisky in the same genre or some great Highland/Lowland ones.

Cheers!

In terms of American whiskey, I'll go for Jack Daniels if I'm out and the selection is limited. I'm also a big fan of Wild Turkey, Bulleit and Maker's Mark. British whisky-wise, a nice Laphroaig almost always hits the spot for me.

Not a big vodka drinker, but out of the ones I've tried, Grey Goose was the one that really stood out.
Warpigs.

I've been drinking real ales a bit too much recently and I can now add another favorite:  Badgers Champion Gold (joins Batemans Combined Harvest at the top of the list)
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

You want to try Timothy Tailor's Landlord.

Best real ale in the world IMO.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Anyone tried exmoor beast ale? They had it for cheap at wetherspoons a while ago. Very nice. I imagine its what guinness would taste like if it had flavour

i agree.  find a good pub that offers it on tap and its perfect.  A have had many sessions on it and its perfect for them

sadly its just nice form a bottle!

Sometimes its not the beer but the pub you are drinking it in.  Pedigree is the perfect example of this.  I have rarely had a good pint of pedi outside of burton, and sadly very few burton pubs still treat it the way it should be treated... and i dont believe its all still made in burton.  But some pubs in the area do it perfectly and it is capable of godliness

we still have some good real ale pubs but quite strangely very few now sell the local brews, other than the couple of pubs selling burton bridge beers which can be a bit of an aquired taste if you are not used to them

I see many Single types of malt mentioned, and a couple that are more for show than a good seasoned session get together. Personally, I go with Johnnie Walker Gold on the most consistent basis, no regrets.
