What an awesome gig that was, especially considering the cr@p turnout (Camberley is hardly the rock capital of the south).
In the end there must have been about 50 people there absolute tops, but that didn't seem to phase Kory at all. He was hanging around chatting with people before they started playing, but when they started it was like someone had flipped a switch and turned on "Monster Rock Frontman" mode. They played a bunch of classics, plus a couple of tracks off the soon-to-be-released album (15th July), and due to the low turnout it felt like they were doing a personal gig for you in your own living room. :D
The new(ish) band are tight and great players (guitarist was using a Fender Strat through a 6505 head which sounded great).
When they came off, that switch was flipped again and Kory came to chat and hang out again, just completely soaked with a sweat+beer combination. ;)
I've been a Warrior Soul fan since I first saw them supporting Metallica at Wembley Arena back in 1990, and it's always a relief when someone you've admired for so long turns out to be a really nice and totally down to earth bloke.
The other surprise of the night was that Gizz Butt's band, The More I See, was supporting. Again, they played a storming set, including covers of Iron Maiden's Wicker Man and Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up (which worked remarkably well). Picked up both their albums for £15 I was so impressed.
Gizz had a to-die-for guitar sound too. Mesa Rectifier (didn't catch which) into a Mesa cab. But with a Peavey Classic 50 2x12 combo for his amost-clean sound on a couple of songs. He was playing a nice looking Ibanez.
