Well, I was torn between the Matamp 1224 and the Splawn Quick Rod. But, since I can't try a Matamp out until I'm in England, I opted for the Splawn.

Just got off the phone with Scott Splawn, and ordered my amp! Very, very nice guy, and I can't wait to start doing business with him!

It's going to be a Quick Rod, EL34s, black amp, white piping, Rising Sun graphic.

definately - all the boutique Marshall-like amps are in the USA

I'm still working on the amps spec, but the design concept goes as such:

channel 1) sparkling clean
channel 2) gain from classic rock to brown sound
channel 3) Appetite For Destruction tone - modded marshall, extra gain stage etc

and the amp will have a switch to cut the volume output to around 60%, an effects loop, DI out, reverb or delay, and PPIMV as well as a preamp master volume for channels 1 and 2, and then a gain control for the extra gain on tap in channel 3.

Marshall mods will be available for any of the above, as the basic circuit I started from is a 1968 Marshall 100w Super Lead.

how does snakeskin tolex as standard sound? I'm trying to track down some WW2 British camouflage style tolex but it's not easy.

All soundclips will be made with Bareknuckles methinks

Lol - i didnt realise that you were actually going to do this! that rocks!
the circuit sounds great, but i've gotta say that snakeskin as standard may not be the best idea - snakeskin is one of those things that you either love or hate and you'll be polarising the market, which is never a good thing. I'd go with something interesting, but perhaps more universal?

Yeh, well I'm probably going to do this. I could get it up and running in a matter of weeks if I wanted to, but I'm thinking it might be best to wait till I've finished my business degree. You're probably right about the snakeskin, but I definately want to have something on the amp that makes it immediately stand out from other amps - like 'Orange' amps that have orange tolex.

how about like black/red embossed crocadile leather? i've seen this option on a few amps before - really stands out, and also looks quite tasteful (believe it or not).
