The Les Paul I've been waiting for is coming...
« on: July 05, 2009, 03:28:00 PM »
...the aged and signed Pearly Gates replica  :o

A snip at £12,699 - completely and utterly mental.  I bet they sell all 50 no problem though

50 more aged ones without signature are only £7499

And the VOS version is £5499....

I'd LOVE one of them as Pearly is my favourite 'burst.  One for the seriously well heeled collector only though.  Ah well.

He'd probably have "50 available" too!

I'm afraid these all fall into the "just another LP" category for me.

Hmmm, just wondering... when they try to duplicate a particular LP like this, do you think they spend ages trying to find  maple tops with figuring that closely resembles the original?  It's much more of an issue than it is with something like the EVH Frankenstein or even an alder Strat.

I believe they've replicated the 'burst pattern of Pearly, and here's an actual guitar that someone in the US bought recently which, while not identical, looks pretty darn good to me!

Pearly replica:

The original, plus Gibson's colour match reference:

All that money and you'll need a setup if you get one of the first lot set up with 8's

They look seriously nice though - if I had the cash, I'd have one no problem.  Problem is, at even 10% of that price I'd struggle at the minute.

I do think the pricing is somewhat insane.

Mind you, don't Gibson charge around 10K for one of their 'Masterbuild' guitars?

It's just your typical Gibbo marketing scam.

It's probably a piece of cr@p and only sold to lawyers and executives that don't even know how to play.

these things are really mental...
i'm with philly, it's just another les paul.
they're my favourite guitars, but gibson has one of the worst company policies around...
they're shifting a lot of resources from actual instrument building and developing to absurd collectables...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

To be fair, as daft as it is, by professional instrument standards, nigh on ALL guitars are cheap.

You're average professional orchestral violinist would think it quite miserly to perform with a £13,000 instrument.

Of course, they couldn't buy just as good a violin for a tenth of the price, which we can with guitars.
