Sorry to share boring stuff, but - OMG Great Tone Day!
« on: July 08, 2009, 06:26:13 PM »

LOL, was tinkering with preamp tubes yesterday (due to the feedback issue) and had rehearsal yesterday (tone was good but I had to turn it down due to the other band members).

So today I plugged it in and - OMG, that Ecstasy is amazing! Cleans are fat and alive, the blue channel is just perfect for all rock work and then there is the Red ... freaking high gain heaven, though still very touch responsive. I can dig in and it's all out 90s Steve Vai-ish high gain, but I touch it lightly and it's early 70s Page, awesome! It harmonises also very well with the PRS/RebelYells.

I think running on 50W is like a little secret with this amp, it sounds much nicer than with 100W (maybe much nicer in a stadium though).

Ok Ok, I am boring you guys with my amp stories ... when is the next BKP meet?

I love good tone days. I've been having them a lot recently (and they'd be even better if I had a noise suppressor to tame my Blackstar HT-DistX!)

Nice one dude!

Yeah I love those moments where you just want to revel in something you dialled in. I'm borrowing a mates amp at the mo, it's a Marshall valvestate combo thingy. The amp on its own is not really my thing, I've always hated the Marshall sound to be honest. But I plugged my Pod XT into it, and suddenly the sterile, flat tone I usually get from DIing the Pod to a computer really fattened up! I know I can't really make comparisons like that, but it was a surprise how really very nice it sounded, that power amp section and the speaker really gave that extra dimension in the chain to bring my Pod tones to life.

Only thing is, no matter what I tried, I couldn't capture it with my mic's and recording setup, in fact it sounded loads worse than DIing the Pod to the computer, really nasty quality, so I can't get it down to show anyone or record with! Meh.

Just hooked up the Axe FX in the loop of the XTC and did some patches, controlling the XTC channels and Axe Programs via one floor midi controller.

It's an amazing feeling to see amp and FX switch simultaneously, and then ... the tone ... KILLER.

Gotta do some clips soon!!
