Not really ever been a marshall huy, but someones offering one as a trade for my Hiwatt, are they any good, not worth it etc?

They're typical modern Marshall I think.  Three channels of OK-ness, but they won't blow you away?

With Svet =C=, the TSL can sound very nice, but the gain structure is still a bit 'spitty'.

This is a song that my band tracked in '07. The left guitar is the TSL100 and the right guitar is a Splawn Quick Rod. You can really hear their tonal differences on the breakdown:

I used to have one and they are good sounding amps, lots of versitality. The only thing that put my off is it blew up twice in the space of a month!

If you want three channels and control of other bits and bobs then go for it, personally I'm a single channel (two at a push if I need a REALLY clean, clean sound) sort of guy.

Having said that, I demo-ed my new SG through a JVM when I bought and was blown away by the tone...

Its not really me I don't think, I've got my MJW & I'm happy, but wondered if it'd be a good swop

I think people would like them more if they made better cabs and didn't put g12t75s in them

Maybe.

The TSLs very much a jack of all trades, master of none amp. They sound ok, but marshal tried to make it all things to all men. Oops. Not an amp I'd recommend for anyone outright - very much one that you might like if you tried it.

pretty much, agreed. i prefer the dsl or jvm, too... would be worth looking into if you're considering marshall. though they wouldn't be my first choices either.

i agree with that. If you ask me, the JCM2000s generally sound too modern for the vintage stuff, and not modern enough for the modern stuff (in terms of the voicing, if not the amount of gain). While you're never going to get an amp which does every tone perfectly, there are amps available which do the modern thing better than the tsl, while also having a more vintage-flavoured crunch channel too, in my opinion. :)

dsl's sound better to me - especially the 50w. Nice modern marshall sound though with plenty of gain

Let's say like this: Whenever I speak to people who own a TSL, they tell me stories about what all they changed to get it right, tubes, speakers, mods, settings, pedals, ... until they realise that it's just not right and get a JVM...
