Modding my RG08LTD - It's back
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:26:59 PM »
So for now it's "New Bridge Day", as I just received my Ibanez Edge Pro Cosmo Black from Thomann today. One of the locks for the strings has come off but I think it just came loose and fell off, hopefully.

Got paid today so I instantly dropped an order for Painkillers in black to head my way. I also have tuners and Martin's cabinet to come. Plus some cables from Cleartone. So I'll fill this thread with tons of pics.

So, the Edge Pro for now:

Well its not installed as of yet, but physically it's not just a straight block it's more like.. a thicker block then smooths into a thinner block, but thats only on one side.

The angled block lets you lower the trem more than a straight block.

I replaced the blocks on my original Edges with www.floydupgrades.com brass blocks. The tone is better but the range of the trem is reduced.

It's a shame that your RG has the modern smaller rout, if it was the older style you could fit an original Edge (and I just happen to have an unused gold NOS one around here I'm looking to sell).

how much better is the tone, and how reduced is the range?

I mean do you notice the difference? can you still do dimebag squeals? :)

I'd say it's fuller, clearer and more balanced. Of course these things are difficult to measure.

However I can measure the range (see how I did that link? clever eh) The downward range is the same as before on my 540R and RG550 (the arm touches the body) but the thicker block stops against the body when pulling up on the 540R (I can raise the G string by minor 3rd). The RG has a different route and I can pull up until the strings flat out on the frets.

NEW UPDATE!

I got my Gotohs in the post, my Cleartones in the post and pictures from Martin of my cab in my virtual post!

PICS. PICS. PICS. PICS. PICS.

You can faintly see the word 'GOTOH' on them in this picture, my phone isn't that great.

Guitar cable and speaker cable from Cleartone :)

What I've and some people have been waiting for, MY GUITAR CABINET- which is still with Martin, lol..

BKPs to go!! (picture wise that is)

And sorry Dave, I don't know sadly a far-fetched guess would be steel possibly, like their knife edges. I think.

Well its not installed as of yet, but physically it's not just a straight block it's more like.. a thicker block then smooths into a thinner block, but thats only on one side.

It's Friday! And I'm setting up camp in my living room keeping at my watchpost looking out for the yellow van of brilliance. Here's hoping!
