In the other thread I said if it was me I'd let them keep the Ibanez and demand the full price of it in cash or exchange against another guitar I like, pissed on the counter and walked away.

Extending a back plate wouldn't be good enough for me by a long shot.

I don't wanna be rude but what's going through your head when you're accepting it?

Don't be afraid to let them know what you think - you don't have to be aggressive about it just assertive.

For the sake of 30 quid mail costs you can get your guitar to Feline and back to be setup.

if the repair was solid, i think i would accept the extended backplate as a nice way to cover it up.

really shocking that the guitars weren't setup though.

set ups aren't too difficult to do yourself though - i would take this route in future.

and naturally you'll soon have the vigier too.

Some Pics:

The two cracks were just an inch or two below the two screws for the neck joint, and the green tape is to show where the cracks were, its measured across where the polescrews/pickups from the front and then to the back. As you can see he extended the backplate.

Well.... Why not show us the area under the plate where the cracks were?

Looks like they did a good job so far but the pics don't demonstrate anything other than cosmetics so far.

paul, the manager in matchetts is pretty decent for setups (and pretty cheap, too, assuming the prices have only gone up with inflation). Or there's that luthier dude pete griffin who did a very good fretcrown for me. You definitely have other options, even here in NI, than the BGE if you don't like their service (and from the sounds of it, you'd be perfectly entitled not to like it).

Not trying to go on at you or anything, but it's best to ask first about where else you can go, rather than deal with the consequences later. If i'd known you needed other guitars to be set up, I'd have told you where else to go, but i didn't. :(

I've also just realised I didn't get the tremolo arm back from the kit I gave them, as well as the allen key I gave them. I feel really stupid..

Anyways, here's the backplate (or pickguard blank?) off.

I don't know why he had to cut out the area WIDTH wise..

I went back today, spoke to the guy that I usally deal with for everything. Told him how the other two assistants treated me and everything else, how I wanted to just pull out and walk away with money.

On the downside I couldn't leave with money and we had a talk etc. plus the fact they sold my Edge III with the Edge Pro tremolo (daft bar-stewards) and he (not the one I usually go to) said: "It was the only one there you had and we couldn't sell a tremolo system without the tremolo bar", now I'm going to have to ge ANOTHER one.

On the upside, they misplaced my allen key (which are always bloody annoying to get), and gave me this full Swiss army knife type thing for guitars.

He also told me to bring in my RG (again) to get it tuned, my Indie will be tuned (I brought it in yesterday) and the Vigier - I can take home with me, drop a deposit of £100 for it, got £50 off for it and I have such-and-such left to pay for the next few weeks.

So pics of the Vigier when I get home. It's sitting right beside me at work but I can't play it - the pain, the unbareable pain.

Anyways, this looks like the story is heading towards a good ending or direction, let's hope it goes that way.

Imo that's really really good of them, I've never known a shop to let you put down a deposit and take the gear away untill you've paid in full and atleast it looks like a decent job - albeit a gurning backplate.

Look forward to a ngd thread  8)
