You almost wonder if they're a bit contemptuous of the music they play, rather than actually enjoying it.

No - not all all - they love it and they are damn good at it
watch clips of them doing covers (often better than the original artist) and you know they love the music

Anyway - it's a fun gig to go to !

^ yeah, i mean i guess they couldn't really hate it if they practiced so much to get so good at it. I guess, to rephrase my reply to philly's previous post, they give off the impression that they don't really like that style of music (which can be just as bad, especially with such a maligned style of music as hair metal). :)

I know you're only winding us up, but...

Fun                                    All the time.
Intentionally Stupid         Occasionally.
Unintentionally Stupid     Hmmmm...... quite often.   :|
Joke                                  Never.  Well, hardly ever.

agreed

I didnt say it was a joke genre, I said it was balls!!! ;)

Hair metal isnt any worse for these guys being hair metal, these guys are worse for being hair metal!

Besides, they seem to me to be a Dethklok sort of thing. Silly, yes, trying to be funny, yes, but I suspect they honestly love the genre, but just arent afraid to make light of its dafter parts.

Yeah, I'd agree with that, didn't phrase my earlier comment very well.  I'm sure they do like the music, but they take the piss-taking too far.

I got the album yesterday, completely pissed myself laughing in the car on the way to work this morning, and I'm buying tickets for the Manchester show at 9am

I think they're great, but I can see why you could class them as offensive.  If you're in that camp, then for gawds sake don't go and see the filme "Bruno"...

Okay now that was confusing. I accidentally had something else on in the background, and I was thinking the singer's voice certainly sounds like that guy out of system of a down... Then I realised - DoH!

I definitely chuckled at that. Yeah it's mildly offensive, but not to any appreciable degree. I'd happily level the accusation of over-sensitivity to anyone getting offended by that ;)

If they could name their new album "Balls to all Death Metal" I'd be made up.  :D

I think these guys are great, they can play, their singer can sing and they remind me of all the best excess stories I heard about my favorite bands....after I'd cleaned up myself. Their lyrics are no worse than Jackyl, and AC/DC come pretty close at times.

I'd love to see a serious interview with the guys behind the personas though.

i don't think that's fair. I haven't seen bruno yet, but from what i've read, i don't think there's anything in it which would offend me. there's a difference between parodying homophobia and being homophobic, kind of thing (ditto misogyny). Maybe steel panther are only a parody too, i dunno. but it's too close for comfort, kind of thing.

I'd happily level the accusation of over-sensitivity to anyone getting offended by that ;)

The NEW Video!! YEAH!!!

OK, agree to disagree about the lyrics, I think musically they're entertaining enough.

But that was bollocks.  Like Poison or Warrant at their absolute worst.

steady on, now, philly, poison and warrant kicked ass. EDIT: that verse sounds very like something else, but I can't think of it off-hand.

Poison and Warrant had some good songs, even some great ones - but they also had an awful lot of utter shite.

There are probably exceptions (I can't think of any right now), but I hate these drippy wave-your-lighter-in-the-air acoustic ballads.   :x
