-Free Donuts-
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:15:31 AM »
I looking to upgrade my emg81-7 thats in my RG 7420 to some thing more  dynamic... I like to play on the clean channel alot and the emg IMO has bad tone without disotortion... I want a Pickup that can pretty much go from stummy acoustic type stuff to the brutal skull crushing redwood cracking kind of sound I figured I post this to ask if one of you pick up wizards out there could take a listen to my music and tell me the right pickup for the job... www.soundclick.com/SniperJohnny...From my research on this forum I'm guessing it will be the MM , PK, or WP...y...  I would also like to know what calibrating the pick up means...

I thank all who help me in my quest for tone...

A combination of nuclear destruction and sunny summer skies, eh?  Just one person's opinion, but if the clean sounds are important to you, you'd probably prefer alnico magnets.....so probably a Warpig, Nailbomb, or Holy Diver.  The NB and HD are probably a bit more versatile, but can still get pretty evil sounding (granted not as evil as a Warpig but....).   Any of Antag's clips can give you an idea about the HD's viciousness (and some even show off it's mellower side).  And this was the clip that almost made me buy a Nailbomb.........http://users.tpg.com.au/scallen/forcedaffection.mp3...........unfortunately, it just wouldn't work well in my guitar......

Oh, and calibrating means Tim winds the pickups to compliment one another, whether it's a calibrated set or different individual pickups for a guitar......

I would probably suggest a Nailbomb since it's an Ibanez.

But all my answers usually end up with - call Tim, lol

What's the guitar made of? Warpigs seem to be at home in basswood, and Nailbombs tend to work well all around. The MM would be a bit harsh if you like your cleans.

P.S., Where are the donuts?
BKP Team: Bridge MQ, Black. Bridge HD, Raw Nickel.
To Do: Bridge Nailbomb in chrome (?)

Nailbombs get the versatility vote from me - they handle high gain well too, depending on your setup...

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Thanks for all the guidance... I sort of screwed this post a little what I meant to type was Im going to be putting these pickups into a neckthru Carvin 727 mahogany body ,maple neck and ebony fretboard... I have narrowed my decision to the Nailbomb of the Warpig... Which Pup do you all think would sound better in that mahogany body.?. My final decision will come after i talk to Tim while i order that sweet ass carvin... Ima see if i can get the pickups sent directly to carvin and have them install them... I don't want to have to do any work to it after the factory...  ANy who thanks for all the help and if any of you have any good  clips of the Warpig that would be awesome... so far decision stands at 68%-NailBomb 42%-Warpig

Thanks again and Keep on Sweepin on...

P.s. A Boston Cream Filled to who ever find a nice clip of that Warpig Pup...
