Cold Sweat in Caparison Dellinger??
« on: July 22, 2009, 06:19:37 PM »
Hey guys,
I've heard so many great Clips played with a CS and the description on the BKP Site made me quite curious so that I also want a CS.
Currently there is an A5 WP in my Dellinger which is quite great for all kinds of metal and even the cleans surprised me.
But I want something more complex, open and dynamic for the guitar and I am wondering if the CS would be quite right for the guitar...

For those who don't know the guitar... superstrat mahogany body with a bolt-on maple neck with ebony fretboard. HSS Pickups and a Floyd-Rose Tremolo.

Looking forward to your replies,
Bastian.

It fits the bill in the right guitar, but might be a bit bright in that. Close call. Dunno.

Could get a double screw pole for more bass - that should do the trick.

i dont think itd be too bright, Ive got mine in an alder bolt on strat with a maple top, maple neck and pau ferro board..........you might not like it for metalcore since its not very sizzle-y and its not super brutal. However it can still get very very hot. Its very punchy and very smooth and hits hard but it won't make your guitar sound like a fire bresthing monster. It'll just make your axe sound like an instrument. Not to mention its very clear so it really forces you to play which is a good thing.

Excellent pickup, and very diverse

Fair enough. I've only heard the CS in an SG. Worked very, very well, but was still bright even in that.

Brightness is not the thing I'm searching for... Think I'll stay with the Warpig until I find something better ;-).
Thanks guys for your help and advice!

Could be interesting though.

The CS has got loads of clarity. I only have a set in a PRS (rosewood neck, mahogany body with maple top) and it's fantastic. If the guitar's darkish, or has a bit of weight behind it, the CS does have a nice brightness without being brittle in any way... and is tight and (for a ceramic bridge) very musical too. Definitely complex....

I love this pickup. However, my custom 7 I went A-Pig but that's because I wanted thickness over clarity! :-)
A-Pig 7s, Miracle Man & Mule, Cold Sweats... Expensive kit and no talent posse.

not sure to get what the more "complex" thing you're after but it's true Tim told me the CS would be one of the brightest in the BKP modern range... what MDV said !

So I'd suggest a C-Bomb which is more powerfull and darker than the CS. I guess it will sit well in the caparison.

The C-Bomb idea sounds good to me... What I mean with more "complex" is just that I want a pickup that's not just a metal pickup, although the A-Pig can do MUCH more. Maybe it's just that I'm completely insane ;-).

I think a Rebel Yell would fit the job pretty well

It seems to me that, as you already have an AlNiCo Warpig, and you want something more open, dynamic and complex, that a ceramic pickup is not the way forward. You'll get better dynamics and versatility from a lower output pickup, so staying in the AlNiCo magnet range, that would be Nailbomb or down to the VH range, so pickups like the Black Dog, VHII and so on. I think it would be a mistake to get a ceramic pickup. I find my Black Dog very open, although that's in a totally different guitar. Have you asked Tim for his thoughts? That's what I would do.

I think a VH or Black Dog would cause a huge drop on sustain, compression in such a skinny guitar
I think the rebel yell has enough dynamics and bite
